Celebrating
from afar

Fun is not canceled, it just requires a little more creativity. Just because we can't gather in person doesn't mean we can't throw a virtual party to remember.

2020 has been an unusual year for celebrations. Birthday parties have been replaced with video calls or a hosted online party. In-person baby showers have been replaced with drive-by parades. Sometimes it feels strange to be celebrating at all, in light of everything that is happening. But we're here to say: fun is not canceled, it just requires a little more creativity.

Just because we can't gather in person doesn't mean we can't throw a virtual party to remember. Read on some of out favorite ways to celebrate baby showers and birthdays this year, while practicing social distancing.

BABY SHOWERS

Deep Dive

1. Send an official invitation

When planning a virtual baby shower, we like to think of the end-to-end experience, starting with the invitation. Make the event official with a baby shower invitation that is completely customized for your virtual event. Minted's collection includes virtual baby shower invitations, shower by mail invitations, and even drive-by shower invites. You can opt to mail a baby shower invitation printed on thick, luxurious paper.

2. Mail gifts ahead of time

Surprise the parents-to-be with gifts ahead of the virtual celebration. Hosts should share the mailing address of the soon-to-be parents on the back of the invitation or on a matching insert card, and invite guests to watch from afar as they open their gifts. Pair a gift with a unique greeting card that's sure to make them smile.

3. Make your digital meetup beautiful

One of the side-effects of spending most of our time at home is that we rarely get a chance to dress up. Pick a theme for the baby shower, encourage your guests to dress accordingly, and download a free virtual background to match. The parents-to-be will be overjoyed with a beautiful, coordinated virtual celebration.

4. Arrange for games

Video calls can feel cumbersome when large groups are involved. A great workaround is to plan some virtual party games. One idea is to play a game of "The Price Is Right" on a video call, holding up different baby ittems and requesting attendees to guess the price of each. Or, guests could download a free game printable to guess baby stats or play gift bingo together.

1. Send a themed party invitation

Sending an official invitation can help differentiate a virtual birthday party from any other video call. Pick a theme that speaks to your child's personality and includes details like a personal message, an RSVP date, and information about any planned activities. You can choose to send a unique printed invitation with free recipient addressing or a free digital invite via email.
