Spread the love this Valentine's Day with this heart-stamped tote!
G ive me a plain white tote bag, paint, and a potato and I'm a happy crafter! This Valentine’s Day, I made this heart-stamped tote for my daughter. To make the stamp, I used—get this!—a potato. If you haven’t made a potato stamp before, you have to give it a try, it’s so easy. And since I love the look of ombre, I stamped my hearts in varying shades, ranging from pale pink to cherry red. This is the perfect little gift for your sweet one this February 14.
Draw a heart shape onto a cut potato; mine was about 1.5 inches wide.
Use the paring knife to carefully cut around heart shape; be careful not to cut too deep (aim for about 1/4").
Next, cut around the outside of the potato about 1/4" from top (see photo for detail).
Pat the potato dry; then, using a sponge pouncer brush, dab paint onto the top of heart shape.
Line the tote bag with a sheet of paper so the paint does not seep through. Use a ruler to help you stamp in a straight line. Press the stamp onto the bag and remove straight up. Continue stamping rows of hearts in your desired color pattern.
Once dry, lay a dish towel over bag and iron to set the paint. Add a handmade tassel if you like!
