About the work
These beetle paintings were inspired by my three-year-old son and his love of bugs and all things colorful. I especially love the variety of colors that appear on the iridescent wings. I wanted to paint them in an impressionist-like way, so that when viewed from afar they look realistic, but up close you can see obvious brushstrokes in the paint. This is part of a series of three.
