I came across this old cottage on a soft, hazy day in Donegal, Ireland. The view felt just like the quintessential Irish landscape to me, so I did a quick sketch of it. Later on I aimed to translate the rolling hills, the stone textures of the cottage and the peaceful yet melancholic atmosphere into this aquatint and line etching – with flowing "brushstrokes" and soft grey shades.

I am a graphic designer originally, but in 2011 I decided to spend more time away from the computer, which led me back to my first love, painting! Which then led to surface design, and then illustration. And it set my life on a different path … nowadays I work from my small but cozy home studio in the beautiful Lahn River Valley. I love to sketch and paint outdoors and I call our rooftop garden and the valley itself my second and third workplace.
