The object on the window sill is an 18th century mousetrap hence the name of this painting. While I was eager to include the mousetrap, my main objective with this painting was to create a traditional still life. As with most of my works, some element of mystery or levity is included and the mousetrap serves this purpose. The painting is of a kitchen window in the Single Brothers' House which is an 18th century historical landmark in Old Salem, North Carolina. This painting is one within a series of paintings I am doing of the buildings and surroundings of Old Salem.
ABOUT THE ARTIST

A gallery owner once told me, "Paint what you love and not what you think people will buy and they will be drawn to your work." Since then I have tried to follow his advice. At the same time I realized that what attracts me to other artists' work is the love and care that I see in it. I live and paint in Pfafftown, North Carolina and in Windsor, California spending about half the year in each. I do portraiture, pen and ink, but mostly oil on canvas. less
