These abstract acrylic paintings represent a color study of the sandy beaches and coastal dunes in Northern California. The colors were inspired by the muted hues of the large sandy shoreline, along with the stark whites of the incoming breaking waves. Caryn Owen created abstract paintings while simultaneously balancing motherhood and a career as a marine biology professor for years. In 2014, she left marine biology behind to predominately focus on art.
Using acrylic paint on canvas, Caryn creates abstract landscapes, abstract botanicals, or pure abstract expressionist paintings focusing primarily on color rather than form in her studio in Santa Cruz, California.
