Terry McCaffrey developed the design concept after seeing a postcard featuring child angels, and the resulting imagery gave the Love series a distinctly traditional, romantic character. Issued on May 12, 1995, in Lakeville, Pennsylvania, the stamp carried a 55-cent denomination for then two-ounce mail and was especially useful for heavier correspondence such as wedding invitations containing reply cards and additional enclosures. Printed by the Bureau of Engraving and Printing using lithography and engraving, the stamp combines classical imagery with a practical connection to wedding mail.
