STAMP DESCRIPTION & HISTORY: The 1991 Heart-Shaped Globe stamp was issued as part of the USPS Love series and features the Earth transformed into the shape of a heart, with the continents rendered in bright contrasting colors. Designer Harry Zelenko created the design, which USPS approved several years before it was ultimately used for the 1991 issue. Released on May 9, 1991, in Honolulu, Hawaii, the 29-cent stamp paid the contemporary First-Class Mail letter rate. The sheet-format version was printed by the U.S. Bank Note Corporation using photogravure and issued in panes of 50. Its combination of global imagery, vivid color, and unmistakable heart symbolism gives the design a distinctive place within the Love series and makes it especially appealing for destination weddings, travel-themed correspondence, and celebrations centered on love across distances.

The 1991 issue paired this 29-cent Heart-Shaped Globe design for the standard First-Class rate with a 52-cent Fischer’s lovebirds design for heavier two-ounce mail. USPS issued both on May 9, 1991, in Honolulu, Hawaii.
