The original artwork first appeared on a Mother’s Day card in 1939 and was later reissued as a friendship card in 1941. Issued on April 22, 2010, in Kansas City, Missouri, the 44-cent stamp paid the contemporary First-Class Mail letter rate. Avery Dennison printed the issue using gravure, and the stamps were released in pressure-sensitive panes of 20. Its combination of historic greeting-card artwork, purple flowers, and romantic sentiment gives the design a particularly natural connection to weddings and meaningful correspondence.
