The rural surroundings northwest of Winston-Salem, North Carolina are a rich source of both cultural and geographical inspiration for my work. Pilot Mountain is distinctive and memorable and is a frequent subject of artists in this locale. I was no less inspired to paint Pilot Mountain and was compelled to include some additional regionally-specific commentary to set my version apart. Tobacco still fuels some of the economy here and yet, as the tin shack suggests, maybe its time is coming to an end.
