About the work

This modern abstract painting was inspired by the beauty of the Northern Californian coastline. This seascape evokes the shades of the Pacific Ocean during the short days of the end of fall, as the sun lowers early in the day. The deep browns of the coastal bluffs are emphasized in this light.

Caryn Owen created abstract paintings while simultaneously balancing motherhood and a career as a marine biology professor for years. In 2014, she left marine biology behind to predominately focus on art. Using acrylic paint on canvas, Caryn creates abstract landscapes, abstract botanicals, or pure abstract expressionist paintings focusing primarily on color rather than form in her studio in Santa Cruz, California.
