Watermelon Sugar High
This photograph captures the carefree feeling of surfers in the lineup waiting for the next set in San Clemente, California. With the soft beachy hues of the sand and sea, I feel like I am back on the sunshiny shore where I took it. By desaturating this beachy photograph into pastel hues, I created an image that captures the magic of the sea in the same way it sings to me.

Growing up in Honolulu, Hawaii, the daughter of a surf legend, Paul Strauch Jr. I spent my childhood playing in the sand and deep in the ocean. I feel myself by the sea. It gives me strength, serenity and fills me with ideas and creativity. There is a quote by R.M. Drake that really captures who I am as a beach photographer, ‘She smiled at the ocean because the waves told her story.’
