Mono Lake, located in California's Eastern Sierras, is a truly magical place. The area is soaked in soft, pastel colors, and surreal landscapes. After water from the lake was diverted to Los Angeles for many years, conservation efforts have focused on restoring the lake to its original ecosystem. The lake is now healthy, although restoration will be an ongoing process. I was truly inspired by this beautiful desert lake, and aimed to capture the majesty of this unique and threatened landscape in my photographs. This image is part of a series of photographs from Mono Lake and the surrounding area. I loved the delicate feeling of these knotty branches. The light colors evoke an airy, wintery feeling, contrasting sharply with the desert basin where they grow.
