I based this abstract landscape painting on a photo I took on a summer day in a Pacific Northwest garden near my home. Leafy branches and cedar boughs hover above golden green and yellow painterly brushstrokes leading across the surface of a pond.

The waters and skies surrounding my home on Bainbridge Island, Washington provide me with endless inspiration for my landscape-based paintings. My work combines bold color and loosely applied paint to emulate the poetic interaction of sunlight on the water’s surface as well as the abstract qualities of clouds and sky. Working with water soluble oils or gouache, I use fluid brushstrokes to evoke sunlit spaces and to highlight the organic patterns I find repeated in nature.
