This art print features a Sumi ink painting from my series exploring the organic patterns I find repeated in nature. Fluid brushstrokes reference topography, water, wood grain and natural stones. The use of bold colors brings lends a contemporary feel to a timeless theme.

    about the artist

    byKelly Johnston

    Bainbridge Island, WA

The waters and skies surrounding my home on Bainbridge Island, Washington provide me with endless inspiration for my landscape-based paintings. My work combines bold color and loosely applied paint to emulate the poetic interaction of sunlight on the water’s surface as well as the abstract qualities of clouds and sky. Working with water soluble oils or gouache, I use fluid brushstrokes to evoke sunlit spaces and to highlight the organic patterns I find repeated in nature.
