About the work
I was inspired by Rachel Ruysch, a still life painter during the Dutch golden age. Within her work she shares a beautiful imagination for composition, as many of the species of plants would not bloom together as depicted. During her time one could only dream of such floral bounty. In today's world, it's easy to find flowers from far off places and different growing seasons bundled together at the local grocery store. Today, in this age, many have lost their imagination for local and seasonal flowers and this photograph is a reminder of the beauty just outside our front door.
The hellebores in Odette were plucked from my own garden, planted for the singular purpose of providing enough hope to carry me through Winter into Spring. In February, it is their blooming faces that make all the difference.
