10 Boho Baby Shower Essentials

Before we get into the specifics of how to throw a boho themed baby shower, it’s helpful to understand the essential elements of bohemian style and decor. This will help you keep everything from the invitations to the color palette and the party favors on theme.

1

Earthy & Muted Colors

The bohemian aesthetic takes inspiration from the natural world, so keep that in mind when picking a color palette (no neons, here!). For a more modern take on boho, go for a palette of warm, light neutrals such as cream, terracotta, and beige. Or, for a more colorful feel, focus on soft, rusty oranges, and muted blues.

2

Textures

Similar to the color palette, bohemian style is all about organic-feeling textures. Think linen or homespun cotton tablecloths, shaggy vintage rugs and poufs, and distressed woods.

3

Macrame

No bohemian space is complete without macrame details! This woven art style is a fun (and reusable!) way to add visual interest to the shower venue, and looks great as a photo backdrop or centerpiece accent.

4

Natural Woods

Bamboo, rattan, and blonde woods are an essential part of bohemian decor. So look for ways to incorporate them throughout the party space, like with intricate rattan peacock chairs for the guests of honor.

5

Pampas Grass

Instead of going for fresh floral centerpieces and decor, opt for pampas grass and other dried flowers to channel a more bohemian feel. These dried florals have become a firm favorite with the boho crowd over the past few years thanks to their beautiful texture, eco-friendly versatility, and playful feel. You can even incorporate them as a motif throughout your baby shower stationery!

6

Succulents and Cacti

If you’re looking to incorporate a bit of greenery in addition to your dried florals, go for succulents and cacti. Like with pampas grass, the appeal of these arrangements lies in their eco-friendly versatility (they can be used as decor long after the baby comes!) and the soft green hues they lend to tables and arrangements.

7

Vintage Accents

When it comes to sourcing decor items for your shower, know that vintage is always better! Not only is shopping second hand a great way to keep your budget in check, but mixing and matching glassware or linens from a local thrift shop will keep the boho vibe going throughout your shower space. Look for vintage rugs, colored glassware, and woven items like baskets, chargers, and trays in particular.

8

Rainbows

When it comes to incorporating decorations that are decidedly baby shower, look for mobile-style rainbows in muted colors. These have become a staple in boho baby nurseries, and are another piece of party decor that can be repurposed after the baby comes.

9

Quirky Animals

For a bohemian way to incorporate animals into your decor, skip the traditional storks and bunnies. Instead, opt for animals with plenty of personality like alpacas, elephants, and owls.

10

Embrace Imperfections

At the end of the day, boho decor is all about embracing imperfections and letting rough edges shine! So don’t worry too much about shades matching perfectly or getting every detail just right — the decor (and the day!) should feel relaxed and fun.

Boho Baby Shower Invitation Ideas

Set the tone for your laid-back bohemian baby shower with an invitation that incorporates classic boho design elements. Look for an invitation in your preferred boho palette (warm neutrals or muted colors), then have some fun with the wording to let guests know that they can let their hair down and celebrate in style!

Design

1

Watercolor

Watercolor invitation designs lend themselves effortlessly to boho baby showers. Look for a design that leans into the bohemian love of texture by featuring broad watercolor brushstrokes for an unexpected twist on the classic.

2

Fun Foil

Add a bit of glam to a boho shower by opting for an invitation design featuring fun foil accents. These can be as minimal as you’d like, but we’re partial to this sparkling rainbow design for its fun and funky look.

3

Stars and Moons

For a more refined way to incorporate foil into your invitation, look for a design that features metallic stars and moons. These invitations can be sweet, featuring Goodnight Moon-inspired illustrations, or can be more spiritual, with constellation-like designs that call to mind ancient astrology.

4

Arches

Opting to print your favorite design on an arched piece of card is an easy way to make any invitation feel a bit more bohemian. You can also lean into the rounded corners found in bohemian decor by going for an invitation that pairs an arched card with soft, pebble-like washes of watercolor.

5

Minimal Typography

Clean typography-heavy designs can still work for a boho-themed shower when done in a muted palette. Look for designs that balance clean lines with just a little bit of funk, like this bold and minimal boho invitation does.

6

70s Inspired

Lean into the vintage elements of the boho theme with an invitation that takes its color palette from the 1970s. Keep things feeling modern by mixing a more saturated palette with organic geometric shapes and clean typography.

7

Funky Illustrations

For a modern, bohemian twist on classic storybook-inspired invitations, go for a design that features illustrations with plenty of personality. This one incorporates both a rainbow and macrame-inspired detailing — and could be a nod to the sweet favors your guests will leave the shower with.

Wording

Boho baby showers should be relaxed, intimate celebrations of the expecting parents. So skip overly formal invitation wording to communicate to guests that the shower will be easy, breezy and fun. A bonus tip? Look for ways to incorporate song lyrics, as boho babies are sure to be music lovers (you can’t go wrong with The Beatles). Here are a few ideas:

Statement Lines:

  • “Oh baby!”
  • “The band is getting bigger!”
  • “Help us welcome our little love bug”
  • “Here comes the sun.” (Or, if you know the sex of the baby, “Here comes the son!”)
  • “Baby in bloom”
  • “Tiny human incoming!”

Quotes to Include:

  • “Moondust in your lungs, stars in your eyes, you are a child of the cosmos, a ruler of the skies.” - Bob Dylan
  • “All you need is love” - The Beatles
  • “In my life, I love you more” - The Beatles

Boho Baby Shower Decoration Ideas

Like with any baby shower theme, you can decorate as much or as little as you like. The only rule of thumb when it comes to boho? Nothing should be too perfect! Keep it casual, layer up textures, and mix-and-match what you have on hand to create an eclectic look.

Boho Baby Shower Centerpieces

Classic Bohemian

Does it get any more boho than succulents, macrame, and terracotta? This more-is-more centerpiece is a great way to make traditional multi-plate place settings feel more relaxed, and ties in all of the signature elements of boho style effortlessly.

Neutral Textures

For a soft, maximal look, create a centerpiece with gauzy linen table runners, pampas grass, and tapered candles. Pick two to three colors to work with (we love the warm rusts, creams, and blush used here) to keep things from feeling messy. Don’t be afraid to leave the tapered candles unlit to keep the table safe for any littles that may be in attendance.

Gorgeous Glass & Greenery

For a boho take on a traditional floral centerpiece, look for arrangements that let greenery take center stage and that feature a wild, organic shape. Pair the pretty centerpieces with soft blue linens and an assortment of colorful glassware, both of which are easy to source at a local flea market, and look even better when miss-matched!

Backdrops

Boho Glam

Boho baby showers can feel just as glamorous as any other theme. For a more upscale vibe, go for a photo backdrop that uses an over-the-top balloon arch to create a vignette with staples of boho decor like peacock chairs and Moroccan-style poufs for guests to pose with.

Shabby-Chic Textiles

For a boho take on the classic streamer backdrop, replace paper streamers with strips of pretty vintage textiles or ribbons. This is something that is super simple to DIY — just round up a bunch of old linens from your friends and family, cut them into strips, and tie them along a rope — and will look effortlessly put together when all kept in the same color palette.

Classic Macrame

A large-scale macrame hanging makes for a beautiful photo backdrop when paired with potted cacti, a vintage rattan chair, and rug. We love the unexpected structure this gives to an outdoor shower space, but can work equally well inside (just make sure the macrame is hung against a wall where you’ll still be able to see it).

Boho Art Prints

In addition to sourcing boho furniture and decor that can be reused long after the shower is over, it’s a great idea to pick up a few on-theme art prints that the parents can hang in the baby’s nursery once their bundle of joy arrives. We love the idea of mixing and matching a few bohemian art prints created by Minted’s talented network of independent artists, including pieces personalized with the baby’s name, bohemian takes on classic nursery decor, and more.

Baby Shower Signs

The final layer of decor for your boho baby shower should be table and activity signs. This is an opportunity for you to mix-and-match sign styles to further an eclectic vibe, or to add a bit more polish to a laid back space with a suite of matching signs.

Welcome Signs

Though you can always keep it classic with a sign that says “Welcome to Our Baby Shower,” we love the idea of using the welcome sign (or signs) to incorporate bohemian song lyrics or quotes. “Here comes the sun” would pair perfectly with this groovy, sun-inspired bohemian sign.

Wishes for Baby

Setting up a station where your guests can write sweet notes for the baby is a beautiful way to create a keepsake that the growing family will cherish for a lifetime. Mark your station with a simple monochrome sign in your color palette.

Diaper Raffle

Thank your guests for their generosity by hosting a diaper raffle at the baby shower. Marking the ticket station with a simple white and gold-foiled sign is an easy way to inject a bit of glamor into your bohemian decor.

Guess the Birthday

Boho decor and astrological details are a match made in heaven. Use the “Guess the Birthday” game as an opportunity to add in a bit of astrology-inspired decor to the shower with a sign that features a sweet moon and stars motif.

Favor Ideas

Because bohemian decor is so popular, there are an endless amount of baby shower favor options to consider. Our rule of thumb is to always go for favors that feel personal, thoughtful, or useful — and to always package them up with one of Minted’s pretty customized baby shower favor tags or favor labels.

Sweet Succulents

Sending guests off with a succulent is a boho baby shower tradition for a reason: it’s a crowd pleaser! Just be sure to give them all a good water before you set them out and include a card with care instructions to help your guests keep the newest member of their family thriving.

Macrame Keychains

Whether you try your hand at DIY-ing macrame keychains or buy them from a small business, you can’t go wrong with them as a shower sendoff.

Baby Shower Thank You Cards

After the shower ends and the new bundle of joy arrives, there’s only one thing left to do: send thank you cards! Many of Minted’s boho baby shower invitations feature coordinating thank you note designs, and we’d recommend ordering the invitations and the thank you cards at the same time to keep things as easy as possible once baby comes.

When to Send Thank You Cards

It is always a good idea to send thank you cards as soon as possible after your event. This typically means sending them within two to three weeks after the shower. That said, babies (and life!) are unpredictable. If the baby arrives early, or if things are more hectic than expected once they arrive, it is acceptable to send thank you notes up to three months after the shower.

Whom to Send Thank You Cards To

There are two groups of people who should get a thank you note: those who attended the shower, and those who couldn’t attend, but still sent a gift for the baby or the parents-to-be. Oh, and definitely don’t forget to send a thank you card to your host!

Tips for Writing the Perfect Thank You Card

Thank you cards should be a heartfelt, thoughtful expression of gratitude. This means doing your best to personalize each thank you card with a sweet memory from the shower or a specific note about the gift that you received. If you have time, it is always nice to also include a line our two about how much you appreciate the person’s support in your life. Here’s an easy formula to follow:

“Dear [name],

Thank you so much for attending our baby shower! The memory of [moment from the day] is so special to us. We can’t thank you enough for [gift], it is [reason why the gift is appreciated]. Our growing family is so grateful to have your love and support!”
