What to Include on Your Wedding Website
Your wedding website is a convenient way to give guests easy access to all the information they need about where and when your wedding will be. Not sure what to put on your wedding website? Here's a rundown of everything you'll need.
1. Welcome message and photo
Share a favorite photo (or two!) of yourselves and let guests know how excited you are to celebrate with them.
2. Wedding details
Be sure these important wedding details are prominently displayed on the main page so guests won't miss it.
Your names
Believe it or not, your family members may or may not know how to spell your partner's name and vice versa, so be sure your names are clearly displayed on your wedding website in an easy-to-read font.
Wedding date
This is probably the most important detail guests will be looking for, so you'll want the wedding date prominently listed on the main page.
Wedding time(s)
Don’t forget to include the time of the wedding. It might also be helpful to list the ceremony start time and reception start time, especially if there is a break in between events.
Wedding location(s)
Include addresses for both your ceremony and reception venues, if they're being held in different locations. It's also a good idea to list the city and state of your wedding for any out-of-town guests who might be looking for those details.
3. Schedule of events
Share details on all of your wedding-weekend events: pre-wedding festivities (perhaps a welcome dinner or welcome drinks), day-of (ceremony, cocktail hour, reception, after party), and post-wedding (morning-after brunch, farewell luncheon, etc.). However, only list the wedding events that are open to all guests to avoid any unexpected drop-ins. You'll want to include location names, addresses, and start times for each event, along with any appropriate dress codes, if necessary.
4. Travel information and accomodations
Provide helpful details so guests don't have to do a lot of travel legwork. Supply them with hotel suggestions and any negotiated hotel room rates. Include a list of local airports, train station, and car rental companies. You may also want to give maps and driving directions or details on transportation to and from the ceremony and/or reception. Some brides even supply public transportation information including car services like Uber and Lyft and wedding venue parking details.
5. Online RSVPs
If you prefer the ease of online RSVPs instead of traditional snail-mail reply cards, choose a wedding website template with built-in online RSVP management.
6. Contact information
Guests may want to reach out to you with congratulations or to ask questions, so be sure to supply them with the proper contact information. We suggest creating a separate email address to use for communicating with wedding vendors, then sharing that email address with your guests. That way, all your wedding-related queries will be in one place.
7. FAQs
It's helpful to have a catch-all section with answers to any questions about the wedding your guests might have. This is the place to give dress-code suggestions, notes about the local weather, venue accessibility/terrain details, let guests know if children are invited, offer a gentle reminder of the RSVP deadline, inform them of your wedding hashtag, as well as answers to any other questions your guests might have.
8. Your "how we met" story
Some of your friends and family members may not have heard the story of how you met, so include a section of your wedding website that recounts your love story as well as the marriage proposal.
9. The wedding party
Share a little about your wedding attendants with a photo and brief bio for each person describing how you know them. This way, guests can get to know your wedding-party VIPs before the big day and this might help put a face to a name on the day of.
10. Gift registry
Listing registry information on your wedding invitation is not advised by etiquette experts, so include it on your wedding website, instead. Provide links directly to the online stores so guests can access them easily and purchase their gifts.
11. Sightseeing suggestions
Many of your guests will use your wedding as an excuse for a getaway, so provide them with a list of suggested sightseeing attractions and favorite local spots, like your go-to diner for pancakes and your favorite coffee shop. You could even offer suggestions for guests' getting-ready prep, like recommended salons for manicures and blowouts.
12. Photo gallery
Share some favorite pictures of the two of you throughout the years (but don't go overboard!). Include a few from the early days of your relationship (your guests will get a kick out of a little trip down memory lane), as well as a couple of favorites from your engagement photo shoot, if you did that. You could also include a few photos of your wedding venue to help guests get a feel for the overall vibe of the location.
