About the work

This sweet kitten is one of three in a set of small animal illustrations. Each illustration is hand-drawn, and an exercise in a layered style of illustration that I have been interested in developing. I really enjoy the mix of texture and color and the resulting depth created. A realistic color palate was abandoned in favor of a more playful color scheme. For the kitten, the aqua and golden tones elicited a beautiful vintage-type feel that seemed to lend additional warmth to the illustration. She is my favorite in the series.
