I’ve always had a fascination with the sea. I think it has to do with the feeling that what I look at (and photograph) is the same ocean that existed billions of years ago. Then there’s the idea that I am sharing this gigantic and majestic body of water with someone else, maybe on the other side of the planet. This image is of a young boy looking out to the sea. I took it from a very far distance and it was intentionally shot out of focus in order to give the image a dreamlike feel. What is he looking at? It is up for you to imagine.

I work in the intersection between Creative and Documentary photography. To paraphrase the description of the great American photographer Sam Abell, my style of photography is documentary in the sense that I record the world as it is, however, it has transcendent qualities that start at the documentary level, yet open to interpretation on an aesthetic level as well. I am inspired by the natural world and especially by the seas and oceans.
