About the work
As a landscape architect I am particularly interested in dramatic scenes such as this view of Amsterdam in the mid-1700's. This motif was a favorite of Rembrandt and he produced many "variations on the theme".
My intention was to densely render the foreground and to achieve, sketch the river and townscape very loosely and to achieve an "atmospheric" effect in the sky. I am very pleased with the towering, vertically dominant clouds in contrast to the "flattened" perspective of the Town.
