This is a photo of the coast of the Pacific ocean taken in Fort Funston near San Francisco in a windy day with the fog forming on the horizon. The softness of the water symbolizes the peaceful Pacific. Fort Funston is a former harbor defense installation. It was named in honor of Frederick N. Funston (1865–1917), a General in the United States Army. In 1963 the fort became a national park. Fort Funston is also one of the premier hang-gliding spots in the country. We often come here to enjoy the views of the ocean and to watch the hang gliders in the blue sky over the ocean. I wish all military installations to be transformed into recreational places.
