As an I architecture student, I find many architectural forms interesting. In creating this piece, I was exploring the idea of what is created when something natural, such as the colors of a sunset, is projected onto architectural forms. I have always felt the colors of a sunset are powerful and beautiful so I chose to use the oranges, pinks, yellows, and light purples I see in sunsets. I used the two different mediums of pen and watercolor to differentiate between the man-made and the natural. I also wanted to differentiate between the defined and often rigid edges of buildings and the undefined edges of a sunset. The warm colors in this print are very inviting. This print also has a mysterious quality, as the sun, the source of the sunset colors, is not included. The cliffs rising above the village in the background act as a boundary and a surface to receive the remaining projection of the sun's colors that are not absorbed onto the buildings. The openness of the surrounding landscape further enforces the urbanity and density of the village and creates an attractive contrast. This art print is an interpretation of how the built environment overlaps and interacts with nature. These interactions create compelling assemblies of forms and colors, such as the sunset on a village in this print. The minimal scale of colors in this print make it simple and emphasize form and color over detail.

For as long as I can remember I have loved to draw and paint. Currently, I am an architecture student who enjoys painting on the side. My favorite medium to paint with is watercolors, however I do some work with acrylic and oil paints as well. I hope you enjoy my work!
