Designed by Bradbury Thompson, the stamp's art shows Federal Hall on Wall Street with a view up to Trinity Church—a site central to early U.S. history where George Washington took the first presidential oath.

The first-day ceremony took place at the Empire State Plaza in Albany, where postal and state officials celebrated New York’s central role in American history—from its ratification of the U.S. Constitution in 1788 to its leadership in commerce, culture, and immigration.
