About the work
This piece features a giraffe looking at the night sky. The work is inspired by my love of stargazing--I'm an amateur astronomer--and by my love of animals and nature and the peace the night sky brings. I sought to convey the depth of the sky as the giraffe looks up.

I'm a surface pattern and textile designer and I love to use nature themes in my designs. I love animals and gardening and taking walks in parks--a sketchbook is always at hand--so those themes appear frequently in my work. I'm thrilled that we have monarch butterflies in our backyard after we planted milkweed.
