Design to Dish: Barbecue Pork Sliders with Coleslaw

By Melissa of  Lulu the Baker

barbecue pork sliders sandwiches

I’m pretty sure I’ve already claimed that Mexican food is my all-time favorite, and while I wouldn’t say I’m wishy-washy, I do have a lot of favorites when it comes to food! I really, really love BBQ and can’t get enough of it in the summer. I love grilling everything I can get my hands on, I love smoky barbecue sauce, and I love keeping my kitchen cool when the temperature is soaring outside. With a certain BBQ-worthy occasion happening next week (Hey there, Fourth of July!), I thought it would be fun to put together a few easy and tasty ideas for an outdoor BBQ bash!

I’m not exactly a coleslaw fanatic, but something downright magical happens when you pile cool, tangy coleslaw on top of sweet, smoky barbecue pork sandwiches. Seriously, if these are on the menu, I’m completely helpless. Miniaturize them with some store-bought slider buns and they’re not only delicious, but cute to boot! Keep reading for the recipe.

Take It Outside: Summery Alfresco Dining Ideas

By Victoria of  SF Girl by Bay

Summer is officially here, which means dining al fresco and enjoying the beautiful outdoors. I search far and wide for the best outdoor patios around my city, but this year I’m dedicating myself to setting up my own outdoor dining area for occasions from parties to a few moments alone with my morning cup of coffee. I love this idea of setting up under a big tree, to give a feeling of an intimate alcove, and have rounded up a few more of my favorite outdoor dining inspirations for you.

DIY footed candy jars

I’m all about easily accessible candy as much as the next gal, but I think we can get a little more creative than a plain old apothecary jar, don’t you? These DIY footed candy jars are really inexpensive to make (I used basic glass hurricane vases!) and they’re a much-more-modern take on the standard dessert table.

Customize your candy jars with bold stripes, geometric patterns, or just let the sweets do all of the showing off…

Domino & At Home With a Minted Artist: Karly Depew

We’re thrilled to be partnering with domino magazine—one of our favorite shelter mags!—for a new series “At Home With a Minted Artist.” Each month, editors at the magazine will profile one of our talented artists, taking you inside their homes and studio for a virtual tour. Needless to say, we’re beyond excited about collaborating with domino on this series, not only because we’re big fans of their fresh aesthetic and the art-filled homes they feature in the magazine, but especially since they share our passion for supporting independent artists.

Domino magazine: At Home with a Minted Artist Oscar + Emma

First up is the lovely Karly Depew of Oscar & Emma, who gives us a tour of her Columbus, Ohio, home (and shares a peek at her favorite Minted art prints!). A longtime Minted designer, Karly has been a part of the Minted community since 2008 and has racked up award after award (and has more than 800 designs for sale on the site!).

Head on over to domino to read the full feature, get a glimpse inside Karly’s workspace, and learn about her creative process and what she’s inspired by these days.

Design to Dish: Fourth of July Mini Lemon-Berry Trifles

Written by Melissa of Lulu the Baker

mini lemon berry trifles

The Fourth of July is going to be here before you know it—it’s already less than a month away, which is unbelievable. I love getting together with friends and family to celebrate Independence Day. My mom’s side of the family has always had a family reunion around the 4th, so to me, the day means parades and ice cream and food and fireworks and lots of family togetherness. And, of course, lots of darling red, white, and blue details.

Cool and creamy trifles filled with whipped cream, cake, and berries are perfect for the Fourth of July. The treats complement the color scheme and—best of all—don’t require any baking! These individual lemon-berry trifles use frozen fruit, tangy lemon yogurt, and store-bought angel food cake, so they’re a snap to make and taste refreshing and delicious. Keep reading for the easy recipe!
