So the tree has been taken down, boxes are filling up the recycling bin, and the last bubbly has been consumed earlier this week. The holiday cards once displayed nicely are now are sitting in a pile on your mail desk. It’s officially January then!

So, what to do with all these beautiful cards of smiling friends and family? I can’t remember where I saw this idea (probably pinterest) but I thought it was so smart! Take a picture with your phone of the family photo/card and use it as the caller id picture in your phone. It’s a great way to remember their holiday card and also fill your phone contacts with pretty images of family and friends. Plus, you won’t feel so bad about tossing them afterwards. Less clutter to start fresh with 2013! Any other ideas of what to do with holiday cards after the holidays?

Have a wonderful weekend!

Indoor Winter

By Victoria Smith, SF Girl by Bay

winter

Bringing nature inside is one of my favorite ways to cheer up when it’s cold and wintery outside. Paperwhites and Hyacinths are the perfect solution for the season because they can be forced to flower indoors any time of year. Their bulbs don’t even need soil — they can be forced open in a bit of shallow water alone; just add enough to cover the lower portion of the bulbs without submersing them. You’ll need just a vintage or glass bowl or shallow pot, some pebbles, a few big bulbs and some sunshine. Give it a try. Simple, and so, so pretty.

(Minted’s A Year of Art calendar)

Happy New Year! I love this time of year when we get to evaluate our lives, our hopes and dreams, and then make tangible steps in the direction we choose. This year my husband and I are starting a new system of goals where we focus on one new challenge a week. Things like eating vegan, or listen to a new album everyday, or a family walk at sunset each evening. I’m hoping it will help us make new habits and find new interests. Do you have a system of making resolutions each new year, are you a goal setter at all?

Have a wonderful weekend!

Wallpaper designs by Lisa Bengtsson

By Meta Coleman of One More Mushroom

I have been a long time fan of Wallpaper.  It can instantly add color, pattern, and personality into any room.  I enjoy using wallpaper in my client’s homes and have used a variety of different wallpapers in many rooms in my own home as well.  Because wallpaper can be overwhelming, I like to wallpaper one wall, or wallpaper a smaller space with a more monochromatic or graphic wallpaper.

The wallpaper designs of Lisa Bengtsson are so beautiful and are modern with a touch of vintage.  Not only is Lisa a wallpaper designer, but an illustrator,  Graphic Designer, and ceramic and textile designer as well.

New Years Decorating

By Victoria Smith of SF Girl by Bay
‘Tis the season for holiday parties, and just when you thought the festivities might be over, New Year’s Eve rolls up right around the corner. I’m one for staying in for the evening and celebrating with close friends and family.

It’s easy to decorate with lots of white candles flickering and I quite like this idea of blowing up a few balloons in assorted sizes and taping them to the wall. Pretty!
Here’s what I did last year…
