Note from the Editor

By Liz Stanley, Managing Editor

Last week a couple of the editors and I were able to attend the design blogging conference, Alt Summit in Salt Lake City where Minted was a sponsor. We got to hear insight from our favorite bloggers, and rub shoulders with some fantastic hot shots like Jessica Alba, Stefan Sagmeister, and Chris Anderson. During the sessions, Minted had gorgeous booth in the lounge area put together by Natasha who heads up PR and Olivia, our DIY editor here on Julep. It showcased some of the new Minted party products and allowed participants to create their own bunting banners. Minted also hosted a dinner for a few of the participants the night before the conference started. A fantastic week all around!

Have a wonderful weekend!

Laying Low

By Victoria Smith, SF Girl by Bay

Have you ever slept on a bed that’s just barely off the floor? When I was moving and my old bed frame had been sold (I had to downsize) I had my mattress just right there, smack dab on the hardwood floors. And you know what? It was super cozy! I don’t know what it is about laying low, but a mattress positioned so close to the floor gives me the best sleep ever. Maybe it’s like camping, or college, or something reminiscent to a fort, but whatever it is, it’s very comforting. I also tend to find it quite stylish. Do you think box springs have been a big scam all along by someone trying to convince we need something we actually don’t? Wouldn’t be the first time, would it? Here’s a few low lying looks I love – beds very near to the floor and those doing just fine sans box springs.

DIY Floral Wreath

By Rachel Smith, Penelope & Pip

I often find as January rolls to an end that I miss the beautiful floral wreaths adorning the doors all over my neighborhood during the festive season.

I thought it would be fun to make a wreath I could hang all year through so that visitors to our house are greeted with something bright and cheerful no matter what season it is.

With Valentine’s Day coming up, you could even add some pretty felt hearts too.

Big Picture Award for the best full bleed photo design

Boutique” by Laura Condouris

We love a full-bleed photo design with plenty of personality! Laura’s “Boutique” is the perfect marriage between photo and design. Her casual, yet very pretty lettering glides effortlessly across this design, filling the space without detracting from the customer photo behind it.

DIY Fringe 3-D Heart

By Jenny, Hank and Hunt

Fringe is fun all year round. Make these fringed hearts by simply covering paper mache hearts and you’ll have something almost as frill-ing as true love. Ok, maybe not, but it’s pretty darn cute.

Here’s how to make it…

Party with Donuts

By Alison Faulkner, The Alison Show

I can’t get enough donuts. Not only are they a delicious treat, but they make for a stunning spread. Lately I’ve found picking up a box of freshly baked donuts is all I need to get a party started. My local bakery happily customizes icing colors and sprinkles, and I’m willing to bet yours will as well. It never hurts to ask! Check out these amazing donut displays to inspire some sweet ideas for your next party.

(Betty In Paris from Olive Us)

Hi friends! All over the west there’s been a cold front, even in San Francisco where the editors and I live it’s chilly coat and scarf weather which is unusual for us here! I hope you’re staying warm and cozy right now if you’re caught in the cold front’s way. I wanted to share this sweet video above of Betty in Paris that I think will make you smile. I love the simple concept of her wandering around Paris by herself, having a croissant at a cafe, visiting the sites in her knee high red socks. Wouldn’t you love to tag along with her?

(Fun fact: that cute Betty is my niece!)

Have a wonderful weekend!
