This time of year I get a little stir crazy to travel. The past weekend my husband and son and I took a must needed camping trip in Big Sur with some friends and it was the perfect little getaway. I need to check out these safari tents above in El Capitan Canyon (image above) for another weekend trip. Any fun trips on the horizon for you?

Have a wonderful weekend!

PS We are looking for paid design post submissions for Julep for the We Heart Design category.  If you’re a designer (a Minted designer or otherwise) please check out our submission form right here.

With NYC Fashion week going on I’ve been seeing a lot of beautiful collections circling the internet and this red and pink dress from Honor caught my eye with the unexpected, bold combination of pink and red (not just for Valentines Day!). Apparently, Princess Diana was a fan of this color combo, and so is Sarah Jessica Parker.

The only question that remains:  Would you wear red lipstick or pink?

Have a bold, unexpectedly wonderful weekend!

no sew hair bow tutorial (image)

As you can see from the posts this week, Valentine’s Day has arrived at Julep! I’ve got red glitter covering half of my house and serious damage has been done to the family size bag cinnamon hearts. I’ve loved spying all sorts of crafts and projects around the web to create something special for your valentine, but here are a few favorites I’ve seen to add a little touch of cupid to your wardrobe:

1. Cute no-sew bow project by one of our fantastic Julep writers, Alison (above image)

2. DIY red saddle shoes on A Beautiful Mess

3. Felted heart elbow patches on Honestly…WTF

4. Red tie dye leggings on Small Fry

5. Sequin no-sew heart sweater on Say Yes to Hoboken (my site)

Have a wonderful weekend!

Last week a couple of the editors and I were able to attend the design blogging conference, Alt Summit in Salt Lake City where Minted was a sponsor. We got to hear insight from our favorite bloggers, and rub shoulders with some fantastic hot shots like Jessica Alba, Stefan Sagmeister, and Chris Anderson. During the sessions, Minted had gorgeous booth in the lounge area put together by Natasha who heads up PR and Olivia, our DIY editor here on Julep. It showcased some of the new Minted party products and allowed participants to create their own bunting banners. Minted also hosted a dinner for a few of the participants the night before the conference started. A fantastic week all around!

Have a wonderful weekend!

(Betty In Paris from Olive Us)

Hi friends! All over the west there’s been a cold front, even in San Francisco where the editors and I live it’s chilly coat and scarf weather which is unusual for us here! I hope you’re staying warm and cozy right now if you’re caught in the cold front’s way. I wanted to share this sweet video above of Betty in Paris that I think will make you smile. I love the simple concept of her wandering around Paris by herself, having a croissant at a cafe, visiting the sites in her knee high red socks. Wouldn’t you love to tag along with her?

(Fun fact: that cute Betty is my niece!)

Have a wonderful weekend!

So the tree has been taken down, boxes are filling up the recycling bin, and the last bubbly has been consumed earlier this week. The holiday cards once displayed nicely are now are sitting in a pile on your mail desk. It’s officially January then!

So, what to do with all these beautiful cards of smiling friends and family? I can’t remember where I saw this idea (probably pinterest) but I thought it was so smart! Take a picture with your phone of the family photo/card and use it as the caller id picture in your phone. It’s a great way to remember their holiday card and also fill your phone contacts with pretty images of family and friends. Plus, you won’t feel so bad about tossing them afterwards. Less clutter to start fresh with 2013! Any other ideas of what to do with holiday cards after the holidays?

Have a wonderful weekend!

(Minted’s A Year of Art calendar)

Happy New Year! I love this time of year when we get to evaluate our lives, our hopes and dreams, and then make tangible steps in the direction we choose. This year my husband and I are starting a new system of goals where we focus on one new challenge a week. Things like eating vegan, or listen to a new album everyday, or a family walk at sunset each evening. I’m hoping it will help us make new habits and find new interests. Do you have a system of making resolutions each new year, are you a goal setter at all?

Have a wonderful weekend!

I hope you all have a wonderful, joyous holiday season! Can you believe it’s here already? I wanted to share with you these holiday cards my family sent out this year. I ordered Minted’s twisted peppermint holiday non-photo card and then manipulated a photobooth image in illustrator with some festive graphics. We didn’t have time to take professional photos so I wanted something a little silly and fun. Are you sending out cards this year?

Have a wonderful weekend and holiday!

The holidays are here (hooray!) as you’ve seen with the flurry of festivity on Julep so far. This time of year isn’t all glitter and jingle bells though, there’s the dreaded family photo session to send with your yearly holiday cards. It doesn’t have to be all stress and tantrums though, I love one of my stylist’s, Emily Frame’s tips:

“Instead of looking for top to bottom looks for everyone in your family, look in each closet for color themes. By picking a couple neutrals and a couple pop colors you can create a really natural family look without feeling too matchy-matchy”

For all 10 tips from my stylist and photographer check out my post right here.

Are family photos a stressful situation for your family? I’d love to hear your tips on surviving them!
