Minted News: Updates to the Artist Community Experience

After the launch of our redesigned artist community experience last month, we received a ton of great feedback from our community members and we’re excited to announce some new features and bug fixes today.

1. New: Challenges Activity Feed
Get up to date on what’s happening with challenges on the Challenges page. From there, you can click through to get more info on each currently open Challenge; you can also see the most-recent submissions for the different challenges in the activity feed. We’re planning to add latest comments, likes, and other challenge-related activity to the feed in near future.

2. New: View all Winners and Editor’s Picks for Each Challenge
Now you’ll be able to check out all of the winners and Editor’s Picks awards for any challenge on the Challenge page. (For example, you can now see all winners and Editors Picks for the West Elm Challenge that occurred earlier this year.)

3. Fix: Filter All Submissions in a Challenge to Find Open Polls
Now you can more easily weigh in on open polls in a challenge. Simply go to the homepage of that Challenge, go to the Submissions panel, and click on “Polls” in the “Browsing By” drop-down menu. This will filter all the submissions that have an open poll.

4. Fix: See All Submissions Sorted by Score Once Winners Have Been Announced
We’ve fixed the issue that had prevented you from sorting all design submissions in a challenge by a decreasing order of their score once the winners had been announced. Now, once you’re in the “Submissions” panel of a Challenge page, you will see an option to sort by “Score” in the “Sorted By” drop-down menu. (For example, check out this new sorting feature on the “On a Roll” fabric challenge page.)

5. Fix: Receive an Email When Your Design is “Liked” on the Challenge Page
When we launched our redesign last month, you no longer received an email when your submissions were liked by other artists on the Challenge pages. This is now fixed and you should once again be receiving an email when your design submissions are liked.

We hope you enjoy these latest additions and, as always, please share your feedback in the comments so we can continue to improve your artist experience on Minted.

Minted News: Launching a New Artist Community Experience

One of the most exciting parts of our work here at Minted is supporting the creativity, personal development, and careers of the best independent artists in the world. We are here because of you—we love your creativity in exploring new design boundaries and your courage to put your vision out there for everyone to appreciate. Our brand is built around you, as an individual artist.

As you may have heard on previous conference calls and from other community members, we’re revamping the artist community section of our website over the course of 2015. We’re adding new features, tools, and services to make it easy for you to participate in our challenges, give and take feedback from other artists in our community, and build your brand and business on Minted.

We are thrilled to announce the launch of the first phase of this redesign today. Here’s a quick tour of some of the redesigned features that are a part of this first phase:

  • Redesigned “Participate” section. Enjoy a new look and feel for the Participate section of the site, with a redesigned navigation to help new artists learn about our challenge process and the community.

  • Challenges page. Find all the open challenges to submit, critique and vote in one place—the Challenges page. You can also see upcoming challenges, recent winner announcements, and community events on the same page.

  • Synchronized calendar for Challenge deadlines and Community events. Keep track of all design challenges and community events in your Google calendar, Outlook, or any calendar of your choice. It will automatically update your calendar as we announce new challenges or update deadlines, or host events.

  • Challenge Home. Each design challenge on Minted will now have a new home where you can find all of the Challenge activity and information in one place. You’ll find the latest submissions, requests for feedback, open polls, information about the challenge and the prizes, and a leaderboard. You’ll be able to submit your designs, vote on designs, like designs, and finally see the winner announcements here as well. See, for example, our home page for the 2015 Holiday Cards Challenge.

  • Artist Dashboard. Brand-new is our artist Dashboard—this is your personalized starting point on Minted. Here, you’ll see your stats, recent submissions, announcements from Minted, and much more. The Dashboard will make it easy for you to see current challenges and voting, give feedback, and connect with other artists in the community. Find a link to your Dashboard by logging in to Minted and clicking on your name on the top right corner.

We hope these changes will help you create, promote, and enjoy your work on Minted. This is the first phase of a complete redesign of your artist community experience on Minted; we’ll be rolling out new features and improvements throughout the rest of this year. We’d love to hear your feedback on these new features, and how we may be able to improve them to better fit your needs. Please share your feedback here.

We are committed to providing you the best platform to develop, get exposure for your work, and have fun with likeminded creatives. We ask that you pay it forward by helping your fellow Minties with honest, constructive critiques, and support.

We’re heading to the National Stationery Show this weekend to demonstrate some of these features and collect feedback in person from some of our community members. We also have a community VoiceIt conference call scheduled for later this month, where you can ask questions and give us feedback. We look forward to hearing your thoughts! You can also check out some of the frequently asked questions from artists about the new community redesign.

Big News: Fabrics and Stores!

Today, I’m excited to announce that Minted is expanding into textiles and has opened more than 1,000 stores for competition-winning designers and artists, turning Minted into a platform-enabled marketplace and providing Minted’s customers more direct access to the world’s best designers and artists.

Over the past seven years, Minted has focused on creating beautiful one-of-a-kind paper goods – stationery, party décor and art – and starting today, you’ll be able to find the same high-quality, highly unique assortment you’ve come to expect from us in fabrics, sold by the yard.  In order to assemble the gorgeous assortment of fabrics you can now find on Minted, we quietly held a design competition and received 1,400 breathtaking submissions by independent artists around the world – from Cape Town, South Africa to Milford, Michigan.  The winning design, Sweet Leaves and Berries, was created by Erin McManness of Atlanta, Georgia.  And that’s just the beginning!

In other news, we are also announcing that more than 1,000 winning designers have been invited to open their own stores on Minted. Going forward, if you win a prize in a Minted design challenge, you will be invited to open a store on Minted where you can launch your any art prints and fabric designs you choose without going through the competition process, using Minted’s back-end fulfillment and customer service to operate your business.  You can easily upload your art print, for example, and sell large format prints, framed, directly to consumers – with Minted handling all of the printing, framing, and customer service.

As I sat here writing this blog post tonight, I saw countless art prints being launched to the site.  In fact, Erin McManness (mentioned above as our fabrics design challenge winner), coincidentally launched this quite adorable art print, “French Flower Shop” as well the beautiful “Little Terrarium Succulent Illustration” while I was writing about her!

Finally, in order to help designers and artists continue doing what they do best – create beautiful, one-of-a-kind goods – and in order to help us do what we do best – make and ship their creations on-demand  – we’re happy to also announce that Minted has raised $38 million in a Series D round led by Norwest Venture Partners, with participation by Technology Crossover Ventures.

To our customers – we thank you for your patronage and we continue to strive to serve you better each year.

To our community of designers and artists – thank you for your continued support, you make Minted special and we are honored to have you be a part of our curated marketplace.
