Minted & Girls in Tech

If you’re lucky enough to live in the Bay Area, make sure to go hear our founder and CEO Mariam Naficy speak to the fabulous organization Girls in Tech. Girls in Tech is a social network focused on engaging, education, and empowering women in technology. They work hard to foster collaboration, promotion, growth and the success of women generally in the technology sector. I know Mariam is really looking forward to this and we’re all excited to hear her pearls of wisdom!

Vote for Mariam!

Our founder and CEO Mariam Naficy has spent literally countless hours voting on each and every design ever submitted to Minted and now it’s our turn to vote for her!

She has just been nominated for the 2010 Women’s Initiative Women Entrepreneur of the Year award. We’re not really surprised because we know how fabulous she is and how incredibly hard she has worked to create Minted. It only takes a quick second (literally one click) to vote and it matters a lot because the judges are looking to gauge how engaged of a community the entrepreneur has helped create and I think everyone would agree that we have the most engaged community there is! Speaking of our community, we have so appreciated the excitement around the holiday challenge and have also been so encouraged by how genuinely nice everyone in our community is—all of the comments left on the countdown have been so positive and upbeat–so a big thank you to everyone for that as well.

I’ve been out in Park City for the ALTitude Design Summit and for Sundance so I have great design and movies on the mind. I just happened across an incredible website that is in my mind a virtual goldmine of inspiration for font and composition ideas… not to mention a great resource for your Netflix queue.

Even the films “Ends” have a lot to teach us!

A huge congratulations to the newly engaged!

We know lots of you lovebirds made plans to tie the knot over this past holiday season, as one in five engagements happens between Christmas and New Year’s. And why not? It is such a festive and cozy time of year!

And so the excitement begins… date setting, dress shopping, and our personal favorite: invites!!! A few of our new wedding invitations are already generating quite a buzz, including a full page of editorial in InStyle Weddings:

Cheree Berry in Martha Stewart Weddings

We couldn’t take our eyes off the pages of Minted brand Cheree Berry’s red and aqua wedding featured in Martha Stewart’s Summer 2009 edition. Cheree nicely gave Minted a shout-out today in Martha Stewart’s “The Bride’s Guide” blog. I just love the idea of Minted personalized wedding stationery for a bridesmaid gift–so much in fact I may have to steal it for my own upcoming wedding! Pair it with an engraved letter opener and it’s a worthy gesture of thanks for any bend over backwards attendant. Thank you Cheree and a million congratulations on your letter-perfect wedding!

Minted in InStyle Wedding

At Minted we love the idea that invitations can capture the spirit and personality of an event. And we’re not alone, in their Summer 2009 issue InStyle Weddings featured invitations for the modern bride that eschews outdated ideas that wedding invitations must be stuffy and boring. The article highlighted designers that are pushing the envelope with bold use of color, strong graphic patterns, and creative use of typography. Among those mentioned was Minted’s own Deco Lights wedding invitation by the talented Deb Pang Davis of Cococello. Allison, one of our talented design associates, is also quoted, “Strong patterns, bright colors and clean font help set the tone for a modern wedding, says Allison Wheeler, a designer at stationery boutique To find your inspiration, Wheeler suggest looking at fabric patterns, modern design and art deco-era typography.”
