Recreate This Room: Plant-Filled Reading Nook

By Annie Montgomery of  MontgomeryFest

Chances are the reading nook is where you find yourself curling up with a good book or having long, leisurely conversations with your best gal pal over a glass of wine. The coziest spot in your home doesn’t need a ton to feel lived-in and utterly inspired—here are my picks for creating an intimate room within a room that’s meant to be snuggled in to (especially when Karl the Fog is taking over my city).

Recreate This Room: Earthy Nook Recreate This Room: Earthy Nook

1. “Intertwined” art print by Josh McClendon for Minted
Sometimes, the best part of reading is wandering off mid-sentence to stare into space, so decorate your nook with something interesting to look at.

2. Fiddle fig tree in terra cotta planter; image via See and Savour
Bring the outdoors in with a grouping of interesting-looking plants.

3. Nickel and leather ottoman
You’re definitely going to need a place to rest your feet.

4. Nickel and leather chair
A comfy chair that only gets better with age is an absolute must.

5. Sheepskin wool rug
No one likes cold feet, so warm your toes with a soft, cozy rug.

6. Brass table lamp
Because good lighting is an essential element for a comfy reading nook.

7. Wool kilim rug
Add more texture and visual interest to the intimate space by mixing-and-matching your rugs.

8. Reclaimed wood & zinc coffee table
The perfect place to rest your cup of coffee.

Recreate This Room: Pastel Living Room

By Annie Montgomery of  MontgomeryFest

This serene living room instantly evokes a sense of calm, like a tranquil oasis. I can only imagine the inspirations that would abound after spending ten minutes lounging on that couch. You can recreate this look in your own home by incorporating soft, muted tones while letting accessories like blankets, poufs, and art take center stage. Surround yourself with the most luxuriously soft textiles and let the good vibes take over the whole room.

Recreate This Room: Sunlit Bedroom

By Annie Montgomery of  MontgomeryFest

It’s magical, that time of day when sunlight pours through the windows, casting a soft glow over everything. This cozy, inviting bedroom captures it perfectly, with its open windows, rumpled bed sheets, and dark wood floors. To recreate the look in your own home, outfit your bed with soft, comfy linens juxtaposed against furniture and fixtures in wood, leather, and deep, saturated tones.

Ideas for decorating your bedroom with art

1. Emerald-green pendant light

2. “Indigold” art print by Stephanie Ryan for Minted

3. Gold throw blanket

4. Washed linen duvet covers

5. Brass task lamp

6. Washed wood dresser

7. Turkish patchwork rug

We Made a Video With Oh Happy Day’s Jordan Ferney!

We’re huge fans of Jordan Ferney’s wonderfully whimsical blog Oh Happy Day and are so excited to share this fun video we made featuring Jordan and her favorite Minted art prints (they make the best holiday gift!). Minted is based in San Francisco, where Jordan and her family reside, and we love spotting her beyond-cute, vintage Fiat parked around town (it makes a cameo in the video, too!). Enjoy our little holiday video—we made it shop-able, so anytime you see a Minted art print, mouse over and click to get the full scoop!

Currently Loving: Cozy Modern

As the winter months approach, I feel more and more like going into hibernation mode. Preferably curling up in one of these spaces—they’re cozy and intimate, and done in perfectly soothing shades of gray to keep you warm all season long. They don’t feel quaint or old fashioned, though, instead they feel modern and sleek, like your favorite cashmere sweater. Like this image above —a beautifully classic egg chair paired with wonderful Scandinavian materials and textures. I could sit here by the fire and watch the snow fall for hours.

Currently Loving: Wall Murals

Wallpaper is back in fashion! And a wallpaper trend I’ve been seeing a lot of is the oversize mural, which pretty much takes over an entire wall. The look is different and dramatic, and definitely makes a bold statement. Lots of wallpaper companies are rolling out these larger prints and the look is trés chic, perhaps even a little Parisian. Here’s some I quite like.

The July issue of Inside Out magazine featured this pretty bedroom, with a beautiful mural acting as a stunning backdrop to the antique brass headboard.

Kids’ Art Challenge: Special Prize Winners

At Minted, we think it’s never too early to surround children with beautiful art. So for our recent Never Too Early Kids’ Art Challenge, we asked the Minted Community to create original works of art—the cleverer the customization, the better! The art prints below really stood out and were winners in our Special Prize categories, and we couldn’t be happier about them! Congratulations to our Special Prize winners!

Customization Award (for the cleverest customization element): “Cityscape Stats” by Frooted Design

Veteran Minted artist Tanya of Frooted Design has captured the Customization Award with this incredible cityscape. Tall buildings mix with a water tower and billboard to create a dynamic scene. Set against a flat grey backdrop, the objects are created with thickly drawn lines resulting in a simple and elegant execution. Important birth details are called out on the various signage, “advertising” the important points of the big event.

Currently Loving: Indoor Foliage

By Amy Ehmann of  Design Lotus

Now that it’s autumn, I’m brainstorming ways to bring the outdoors in by adding indoor plants and trees to different rooms in my house. I love how they add a dose of nature that can be enjoyed all year round.

The schefflera tree (depicted above) is also known as an umbrella tree; I love the lush, tropical feel of the foliage and the sculptural qualities of the stems (they can be braided together to form a piece of living art!). Photograph via Javado Plant.
