While most people are wrapping up the summer, everyone at Minted is focused on the upcoming winter holidays.  And we’re excited to announce – the Holiday Card Winners are here!

“The Most Wonderful Time” was our eighth holiday card design challenge. I am thrilled to say that this was the strongest holiday card design challenge we’ve had in our 8 years; Minted’s community of independent designers produced breathtaking and exceptionally creative designs. I appreciated how much designers took to heart our request for creativity and to carve their own creative path.

Here is this year’s challenge by the numbers:

  • The artist community submitted a total of 4,661 designs
  • Designers held 856 design polls, and participants submitted 8,305 comments and 79,948 likes

As ever, we want to thank each and every designer who submitted a design, gave a critique, voted in a design poll, or shared festive posts in the Minted Community Facebook group to help their fellow community members get in the holiday spirit. Our community is truly what makes Minted unique and is, without question, the very reason we have the best design and art in the world.

Let’s not keep you in suspense any longer – here are your 41st-50th place winners. Stay tuned for 31-40 tomorrow. Huge congrats to our first batch of holiday winners!

Guest Judge Pick
Vintage Pumpkin Seeds” by Karidy Walker

We asked Jenny Keller a self-taught baker, author, and stylist whose creative work has been featured in Romantic Homes, US Weekly, OK! Magazine, and Brides Magazine among others to guest judge this challenge.

Her thoughts on her Minted pick: “I love all things vintage and this design has the perfect mix of colors and a great variety of fonts.  The back of the card would be darling with a plaid design in a mix of  oranges, black, browns and greens. This design would be simple to coordinate party decor and can be used for any fall occasion.  I imagine a big party at a local pumpkin patch to pick out pumpkins or an outdoor family gathering with pumpkin carving and hot apple cider.  I may need to plan a party with this card!”

2014 Holiday Challenge Winners Visit San Francisco

Written by Anthea Tjuanakis Cox, Kaitlyn McCoy and Amy Schroeder

We had the pleasure of hosting the three top winners of Minted’s 2014 holiday design challenge during the week of June 8. In addition to a cash prize, Jennifer Wick, Jessica Williams, and Stacey Meacham won a trip to our hometown of San Francisco as VIP guests. The Minted Artist Relations Team took the three artists to a number of Bay Area destinations and gave them a behind-the-scenes tour of Minted’s San Francisco and Oakland offices.

They all said they enjoyed meeting the people who make Minted run smoothly. “And the fact that [Minted CEO] Mariam [Naficy] doesn’t have an office is pretty cool,” Stacey says. “I’m so inspired after talking with her. She is inviting of questions and has such an enthusiasm for what we do.”

Jennifer said she gained a better appreciation for the time intensity of transforming artists’ designs into customizable products on Minted. “I assumed Minted had automated ways to convert our files into customizable web designs, but they are actually very labor-intensive,” she says. “Learning that helps me to be much more patient when waiting for our designs to go live on the site.”

Here are some of the highlights of their three-day San Francisco adventure, ranging from cocktails in the Mission District to seafood at California’s oldest restaurant.

Minted’s Kaitlyn McCoy welcomed the winners of the Let It Snow! Holiday + New Year’s Photo Card Challenge when they arrived at the airport on June 8, 2015.

We cooled down an unusually hot summer day with sangrias on the rooftop of El Techo de Lolinda in the Mission. From left: Jen Wick of Harrisburg, Pennsylvania; Stacey Meacham of Atlanta; and Jessica Williams of Nashville.

Photo-booth fun with Mariam, Minted’s CEO and Founder. Top row from left: Minted’s Amy Schroeder, Kaitlyn McCoy, Anthea Tjuanakis Cox and Mariam Naficy. Bottom row from left: Jennifer Wick, Stacey Meacham, Jessica Williams and Minted Vice President Brady Wood.

Anthea Tjuanakis Cox, Minted’s Artist Relations Director, gets creative in the sand at Baker Beach.

On a typical foggy day, we played “try to find the Golden Gate Bridge” at Baker Beach.

Getting cheeky at Madame Tussauds wax museum.

We took a wriggly drive down Lombard, America’s most famous crooked street.

We ended the second day at Tadich Grill, California’s oldest restaurant. Originally a coffee stand founded in 1849 during the San Francisco Gold Rush, now it’s a popular place for seafood and cocktails. “The dinner was a favorite highlight of mine because it was our last time together as a group, and I felt we really connected,” Jennifer Wick says.

For our last stop before heading home, we visited Minted’s Oakland facility for mini doughnuts and coffee with the Minted Customer Service team. These friendly folks help Minted customers customize and perfect their designs. “I was highly impressed with the people in customer service,” Jessica Williams says. “What a phenomenal group.”

Happy Mother’s Day from Minted!

Mother’s Day is a special time at Minted—not only do we get to celebrate the wonderful women in our own lives, but also the amazing community of women that make Minted what it is. We asked our Minted community—our designers and artists, customers, and fans—to share a photo of themselves with their mama along with a fond memory or their best piece advice, and we were so moved by everyone’s submissions! Here’s just a snippet of the heart-warming entries we received; you can see all the submissions on Instagram via #mintedmoms.

1. @goosenpumpkin: Anytime spent with my mom, my sister and all our kids (8 between the two of us) is a great time. Lots of noise, Grammy cooking up a storm and playing with the kids in between it all. She is pure joy. I have never met anyone harder working, more generous, more gracious or more self-sacrificing than my mom. She is adored by everyone blessed enough to know her and, obviously, just beautiful; inside and out.

2. @smile_peace_love_creative: My mother, my guardian angel, has inspired me to follow my dreams. Her words, and her grandson, that she never had the chance to meet, have inspired me to move forward in my life.  With her passion for life prominent in my memory, I strive to push myself and follow my dreams.

3. @HolliejngAround the time this photo was taken, I remember being bullied by some kids in the neighborhood. I came home crying and my mom gave me a cuddle, some M&Ms, and taught me one of life’s most important lessons: Chocolate makes everything better!

4. @DjFalconer: One of my favorite pictures ever. Me with my Mom, my Grandmother, & my Great-Grandmother {1979}. Everyday, but especially on Mother’s Day, I feel incredibly lucky to have had them set a shining example of what it means to be the world to your children.

5. @maraboudesign: I attribute all my success to my mother’s moral & intellectual guidance. She is the epitome of grace, style & beauty. Her mother passed away when she was only 3yrs old, and my grandfather never married again. Though she never experience the security of having a mother’s love, she never allowed her loss of that bond prevent her from being the best mom a girl could wish for.

6. @Mothershrummer: Introducing my mom to a “selfie” and her smile when she sees us together! [Especially sweet] when they have dementia…. These are the moments!!

7. @jan_vilkin_kessel: My Mom-mother of 4 outstanding individuals:), was the Mom that all the other kids wanted. “I wish my Mom was like your Mom”, they all said. Everyone was always welcome at our house. My Mom was an outstanding mother, and a wonderful human being. She was a friend to everyone.

8. @leslieannjones: Even at the beach, a mom’s work is never done. So thankful for this lady and all that she’s sacrificed for me over the years. Thirty years later, and she’s still helping me to stand.
