Shamrock Cookie Cutter for St Patricks Day

Shamrock Cookie Cutter St Patricks Day DIY

St Patrick’s Day is fast approaching and this year I really wanted to make some shamrock cookies. It’s not often you get to make green goodies to eat!

I couldn’t find a shamrock cookie cutter in any of my local stores, so I decided to make my own and discovered with a few items from around the kitchen, a fun cookie cutter is really easy to make. The kids will really love helping you make these for a St Patrick’s Day morning tea.

Animal Bookends

By Rachael Smith, Penelope & Pip

As a book lover I’m always on the lookout for a pair of cute bookends. I have been searching for animal ones for ages, but the ones I’ve fallen in love with are a bit out of my budget.

So I thought I’d get my glitter on and make some cute elephant bookends myself.

Glitter is such a fun medium to work with (especially when it’s hot pink!) and the kids will love helping you make a new little addition to brighten up their shelves.

DIY: Five-Minute Art Print Frame

By Rachael Smith, Penelope & Pip

diy frame

Minted has such a gorgeous selection of arts prints, especially for Valentine’s Day, so I thought it would be fun to make an easy DIY frame to get your art print hanging in no time – no expensive framing required!

The structure of this frame also has a neat little trick that will let you swap out your art prints whenever you want to change around the theme of your home decor, and the best part is it takes only five minutes to make.

DIY Floral Wreath

By Rachel Smith, Penelope & Pip

I often find as January rolls to an end that I miss the beautiful floral wreaths adorning the doors all over my neighborhood during the festive season.

I thought it would be fun to make a wreath I could hang all year through so that visitors to our house are greeted with something bright and cheerful no matter what season it is.

With Valentine’s Day coming up, you could even add some pretty felt hearts too.

DIY Little Wooden Houses

By Rachael Smith, Penelope & Pip

This is a really sweet and simple project that you can make for a friend who has just moved into a new house. These little minimalist wooden houses would make a really nice addition to a mantel place or kitchen shelf in your own home too.

I think everything looks so much cuter in miniature don’t you think?

DIY Modern Christmas Fairy Lights

By Rachael Smith of Penelope & Pip

I love walking along the street in our shopping district at Christmas as there are so many amazing Christmas displays in the windows. This year however, I’ve noticed there is not a lot of the traditional red, white and green colours schemes we are used to seeing in decorations for the holiday season.

This inspired me to create a modern take on the tree lights we usually hang, using hot pink and blue, instead of red and green, with a cool geometric pattern of course, to really bring some colourful festive cheer into our home, just like the gorgeous shop windows we love. This is a true five minute DIY which will transform your tree beautifully.

Story Time Bunting

By Rachael of Penelope and Pip

Whenever I look after my nieces and nephews, one of my favorite parts of the night is always the bedtime book. After reading the same books over and over however, (yes Spot, I can see you jump!), I found that making up stories is also lots of fun. With any story though you need a starting point and this fun and easy fabric bunting will kick start your imagination every time. After all, we sometimes need a little bit of help being creative and clever after a long day at work!

The best part is that it only takes five minutes to make so you can swap out these characters for others at any time. You can use animals or anything else you can find on big print fabric – your local fabric shop will have a great selection to choose from.

Embroidered Leather Cuffs

By Rachael of Penelope and Pip

I’m so excited to be launching my column here on Julep with this quick and easy leather cuff. With the holiday season fast approaching I have been looking for ways I can create handmade gifts for all my gal pals and this beautiful cuff is my favorite idea so far. Geometric string art is being pinned from everywhere at the moment which made me think how great it would be to carry your own little piece of art on your arm!

The best part about this project is you can combine any color combination and pattern you like which makes each cuff you create unique.
