To say that I’m humbly honored to recognize Annie Mertlich is a huge understatement. Being voted first place in the 2018 What a Bright Time Quickfire Foil-Pressed Holiday Photo Card Challenge is a major feat in a prestigious and highly competitive category (1,444 submissions in a Quickfire competition with 473,593 votes).
It’s hard to believe that just four years ago, Annie was, in her own words, working a full-time day job that “sucked the creative life” out of her. Luckily it was around the same time that Annie discovered Minted’s design competitions, and entered her first submission into Minted’s 2014 Holiday Photo Card Challenge. As luck (or talent, really) would have it, she scored a pick in her first Minted challenge.
Although she says she wasn’t sure if she’d succeed as a self-employed creative, Annie was optimistic and determined to make her small business, Wildfield Paper Co., a reality. “I had no idea at the time how big an impact those early Minted challenges would have on the success of my business,” Annie says in this “Meet a Minted Artist” interview. Today, she’s a creative force to be reckoned with. Annie is now a full-time artist-entrepreneur who’s crafted her own signature design style that often features organic watercolor imagery of florals and botanicals.
In addition to this first-place win, Annie has earned a total of four additional top-rated wins in the foil and non-foil 2018 Holiday Photo Card Challenges. Annie is a prolific hard worker and an important member of the Minted artist community. She recently gave back to the community by speaking on the Social Media panel at Camp Minted. We’re thrilled to congratulate Annie for winning the $2,000 top-voted prize for “Joyful Script.” Her elegant hand-painted foliage design’s minimalist style really makes the foiled “joyful” message shine.
