Kristy Kapturowski was short on inspiration and time when she first heard about The Better Together Minted Greeting Card Challenge, but as she puts it, once she buckled down and brainstormed ideas, she had a lot of fun with the creative process. Good thing she made time to work on greeting card designs.
As the first-place winner in the challenge, Kristy won $5,000, and her birthday card will be carried in a leading U.S. retail chain (to be announced). She also earned Editors’ Picks for 14 other card designs. “Greeting cards turned out to be one of my favorite products to design,” says the Philadelphia artist who goes by the moniker Hooray Creative. “I really enjoyed the chance to write copy and develop concepts for the front and inside of the card, combining illustration with my love of typography.”
Kristy’s winning card, “Heart and Floral,” earned a final average score of 3.99. How did she create the design? “I really just wanted to make an eye-catching, beautiful card that would appeal to a wide audience—something I could give to my own sister or friend,” she says. “I had planned on incorporating florals into this design from the get-go, so I arranged my hand-drawn leafy elements around a well-placed gold foil heart and tried to create a sweet, yet sophisticated palette.” She then added a few more gold accents to the final layout to up the “wow factor.”
Minted announced winners of the Better Together Greeting Card Challenge on August 4. All of the winners’ work will be available as part of our Wholesale program for potential retailers to purchase. Kristy says she’s excited about how Minted is expanding into the retail greeting card market. “To see any of my greeting card designs on display in a retail store would be a dream,” she says. “I’m beyond grateful for this opportunity and cannot wait to see Minted’s gorgeous assortment available in stores.”
Kristy is a longtime Minted artist who joined the community in 2010. In the last seven years, she says she’s learned a lot and has worked hard to earn a path of continued success on Minted. “I’m always exploring various tools and techniques for the sake of creativity and progress,” she says. “And as Minted has introduced new products into the fold, I’ve been challenged to try new things and design to a higher standard.” She adds that she’s continually impressed with fellow Minted artists’ talent. “It encourages me to do better work, expand my skill sets and strive toward developing my style and artistic voice,” she adds.
