Chip + Joanna Gaines, Sweet Paul, and Girls With Glasses’ Holiday Card Picks

Back in April we announced the guest judges of our “Making Spirits Bright” Holiday Photo Card Challenge: Joanna and Chip Gaines of HGTV’s Fixer Upper, and Paul “Sweet Paul” Lowe, Editor-in-Chief of Sweet Paul Magazine. Shortly before that, we announced that blog and YouTube personalities The Girls With Glasses would be the guest judges of our “Oh Come, All Ye Faithful” Religious Christmas Card Challenge. To say that a number of Minted artists were excited is an understatement.

Without further ado, here are our guest judges’ picks from each challenge, along with their thoughts about the designs.

Guest Judges Picks: 2016 Holiday Card Photo Card Challenge

Joanna and Chip Gaines (pictured above) are one of the most popular couples on TV — they’re in the business of flipping left-for-dead homes for their clients: Chip handles construction and Joanna focuses on design.

The Gaines’ selected “Merry Everything + Happy Always” Holiday Photo Card by Annie Mertlich of Wildfield Paper Co. What did they love about the design? Reflecting their love of neutral palettes and rustic touches, they said they “love the simplicity and character of the design, leaving the picture as the highlight.”

On her Minted Artist Store, Annie describes herself as a “free-spirited, flower-loving, nature child.” The Utah artist has been a Minted artist since 2013 and and has 41 wins to her name.

Paul Lowe (pictured above) is a 30-year veteran food and craft stylist and editor in chief of the quarterly print magazine Sweet Paul Magazine. He was born in Norway and now “lives and loves in Brooklyn”; his motto is “fullkommenhet er kjedelig,” which means “perfection is boring.”

He selected “Freshly Framed” Holiday Photo Card by Angela Marzuki, which won third place in the “Making Spirits Bright” Holiday Photo Card Challenge.” This design really speaks to me,” Paul said. “I love how simple and graphic it is yet inviting. The colors are stunning.”

Angela has been a Minted Artist since 2011 and has 64 Minted wins to her name. On her Minted Artist Store, the Chicago area designer says she strives to create designs that feel fresh. “Sometimes this means something modern and bold and sometimes it means something a bit more whimsical. Regardless of the style, I always try to bring an artistic flair, often incorporating hand-painted details and illustrations.”

Guest Judge Pick: 2016 Religious Christmas Holiday Card Challenge

The Girls With Glasses are Summer Bellessa and Brooke White (pictured above) — YouTube stars who host a lifestyle variety show for the modern mom that blends Brooke’s background as a singer and actress with Summer’s history as a model and fashion editor.

Summer and Brooke said it was no easy task to select their pick, “Olive Branches,” by Wildfield Paper Co. “There are so many that we love, and think are amazing, but Brooke and I were both drawn to the simplicity and meaningfulness of ‘Olive Branches,’” they said. “When searching for the perfect Christmas card, we’re looking for something that can show off the photography, and work with what we’ve captured of our families, but also something that can share the message of peace, hope, and joy, that comes with the holiday season.”

Congrats to Annie Mertlich on winning two Guest Judge picks this year!

We publish winners’ announcements in the Minted Community > Winners section of Julep.
