DIY: Oversize Diaper Pins for a Baby Shower

Written by Kathleen Ballos of Snowdrop & Co

I love browsing through vintage paper goods—some of the designs and patterns are so striking! Today’s DIY project was inspired by retro baby-shower wrapping paper I recently found. Since most of the baby shower decorations available at party stores are either very baby pink or baby blue, I thought it would be more interesting to use a coral instead to match these “Modern Momma” baby shower invitations by Lauren Chism. Hang a pair of giant diaper pins on the front door of the baby shower venue, or make a few as decoration for the party. You could even use real safety pins and glue them to the backs of invitation envelopes!

• Scissors
• Pencil
• Foil tray
• Crepe paper
• Hot glue gun

1. Draw the oversized end covers of the safety pin (about 3″) on the foil lid and cut out two.

2. Draw and cut the wires of the safety pin so they are about 10″ long;  cut out two.

3. Hot glue the tops of the wire onto the backs of the covers.

4. For each safety pin, cut two 3″ by 10″ pieces and one 2″ by 4″ piece of crepe. Fold the 2″ by 4″ piece in half lengthwise.

5. Twist the two large pieces of crepe around each other, using glue to secure. Wrap the thin piece of crepe over the twist, gluing in place, and cutting off the excess.

6. Hot glue the two safety pins together and then the bow on top (the photo of step 6 shows the back of the pins).
