Conversation Hearts Valentine’s Day Party for Kids

Roses are red, violets are blue, we LOVE this Valentine party and hope you do too!

Valentine’s Day is one of Happy Wish Company‘s favorite holidays and when we saw Minted’s adorable Conversation Heart Valentine Party Décor and coordinating invitation, we just knew it was begging for a celebration.

The peach, light pink, dark pink and white color scheme is such a sweet twist on the traditional red and white, and gives this party a fresh, creamsicle-like feel.

Our party styling philosophy is to keep things clean, classic and simple and we want everyone to be able to replicate the look, regardless of styling abilities or craftiness. When planning the party décor, we recommend choosing one main focal area (usually the dessert table) where you can bring your party theme and color scheme to life.

For this party, we started with the whimsical heart balloon backdrop, which was super easy to create. Simply inflate the balloons (with air, not helium) making sure you inflate them to the same approximate size. Then use a small piece of rolled duct tape and adhere them to the wall in four rows of three. We alternated between light pink and hot pink, but you can do it in any size, color or pattern.

In front of the heart balloons, we strung a “Happy Valentine’s Day” bunting banner and in front of the dessert table, we layered tissue tassel and circle garlands. We also tied heart balloons to each child’s chair and placed some on the ground for fun. Balloons are such a festive and inexpensive way to decorate and they just scream “PARTY!

Of course Valentine’s Day is all about the sweets and there’s no shortage of them here.  A conversation heart cake, “XO” cookies, cupcakes with flag sticker toppers and candy to take home as a party favor are sure to satisfy any sweet tooth. For the cake, simply frost it white and stick on rows of larger-sized conversation hearts. So easy!

Sugar cookies are always a staple at our parties. They help carry out the theme and are popular with guests of all ages. They’re also the perfect take-home favor when wrapped in cellophane and tied with ribbon (yay to no plastic toy favor bags!). Our mom is a baker extraordinaire and her sugar cookie recipe is amazing. We’re excited to share it with you!

 Yummy Sugar Cookie Recipe

  • 2/3 cup shortening
  • 3/4 cup sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla
  • 4 teaspoons milk
  • 1 egg
  • 2 cups flour
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt

Directions: Cream shortening, sugar, vanilla, milk and egg together. In separate bowl, sift flour, baking powder and salt together. Then blend in creamed mixture. Divide dough in half and refrigerate for 1 hour. On lightly floured surface, roll dough to 1/8 inch thickness. If desired, roll on colored sugar sprinkles before cutting shapes. Bake on greased cookie sheet at 375 degrees for approximately 6-7 minutes. Cool slightly and remove from pan.

Fluffy Frosting Recipe

  • 2 cups powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 2 teaspoons milk

Directions: Combine ingredients and stir until smooth. Color with food coloring, if desired. After cookies are completely cooled, frost and let dry overnight. Do not stack cookies until frosting is dry.

During the party, little sweet hearts can make and exchange handmade Valentine’s, go on a Valentine Scavenger Hunt and fill up on treats at this extra lovely celebration.

What a delightful way to spend a February afternoon, surrounded by loads of hugs & kisses! Happy Valentine’s Day!
