Last year we introduced holiday ornament cards for the first time and customers loved them! With luxe linen ribbon and festive shapes, ornaments are a fun, new take on the holiday card. So this year, we turned to the Minted Community to expand our ornament assortment by being creative, taking risks, and designing the most original holiday ornament cards in the world! We were so impressed by the result, and the winners below each stood out in one of our special prize categories. Congrats, winners!
Great Shape Award for the design that perfectly suits the ornament shape: “Deco Christmas” by Genna Cowsert
Genna’s elegant art deco-inspired pattern of lines and dots fits flawlessly into our new Rose Snowflake ornament shape. The mint and gold color scheme is vintage-inspired while still being modern. The incorporation of the die-cut ribbon hole as one of the dots in the pattern is so clever!
Runners Up: “Snowflake Scribbles” by August and Oak | “Evergreen Wreath” by Kristen Smith | “Perfectly Packaged” by Jessie Steury | “Starburst” by Lehan Veenker
Out of the Box Award for the most original holiday ornament that you wouldn’t find on other sites: “Winter Fractals” by GeekInk Design
“Winter Fractals” is such a fresh take on geometric! Reminiscent of snowflake crystals, the frame will add an ultra cool, modern touch to any customer’s photo. Eric smartly made the triangle facets more transparent on the inside of the frame, letting the photo really shine.
Runners Up: “Fill Your Heart” by Sarah Brown | “Winter Sky” by Shari Margolin
Modern Elegance Award for the best design that is traditional and elegant, but still fresh: “Vintage Swirl” by Hooray Creative
Kristy’s intricate swirl pattern is simply gorgeous! We love the way the hollow circles anchor the ornamentation, which flows so naturally around the ribbon hole and card copy. The choice of bright red for the background serves both to give the card a traditional Christmas feel and to make the design and photo really pop.
Runners Up: “Snowy Sidewalks” by Carrie ONeal | “Swirling Filigree Snowflake” by Laura Bolter Design | “Classic curve” by Stacey Meacham
Merry and Bright Award for the best design that uses bold, non-traditional colors: “Bright Overprint” by Up Up Creative
Step aside, color wheel! Julie has a knack for fun, colorful design, and this card is no exception. We can’t get enough of the bold use of color in “Bright Overprint.” The clean geometry provides a great counterpoint to the softer snowflake shape.
Runners Up: “Be Jolly Together” by Rose Design | “World Joy” by Snow and Ivy
New Baby Award for the best ornament design commemorating the birth of a baby: “Merry Arrival” by Erica Krystek
Erica’s sweet botanical illustrations perfectly frame the photo of the “Merry Arrival”. The symmetry of the curving foliage is so peaceful, almost cradling the baby in the photo. The pops of pink and mint put just the right twist on traditional holiday colors!
Runners Up: “Our First Noel” by Hooray Creative | “First Snow” by Hooray Creative
Curvilinear Award for the best design that puts customers’ names or other personalizable details on a curvilinear path: “Confetti Toss” by Social Goods Co.
Sara made a splash in her first stationery challenge with her fun “Confetti Toss”! The way the swashes run off the edge of the card (not to mention the fun confetti circles!) makes this design so dynamic. The curve of the family name , echoing the curve in “merry”, is the perfect finishing touch.
Runners Up: “Filigree Snowflake” by Lori Wemple | “Swanky Snowflake” by Elizabeth Victoria Designs | “Pine Wreath” by GeekInk Design
Can’t Pick Just One Award for the best design that showcases multiple photos (our customers often can’t pick just one): “Family Circle Holiday” by guess what?
Lori skillfully allows space for nine photos in “family circle holiday” while keeping the design clean and streamlined (all while making it look effortless)! The hub and spoke layout is an amazing use of the circular space. We can see customers using this card in so many different ways (a photo of each of the grandkids, photos from a trip, etc.), and we love how it allows for a central photo to be highlighted.
Runners Up: “Present Collage” by Chasity Smith | “Simple Joy” by fatfatin | “Snapshot Review” by Sarah Curry
Newbie Award for the best design from a first-time entrant: “Cheers to You” by Kelly Schmidt
Kelly knocked it out of the park in her very first challenge with “cheers to you”. The clever layout provides a natural space for a landscape-orientation photo, which is no easy feat in an ornament card! We love the finishing touches of the thin white border and scattered snow. Great job, Kelly!
Runners Up: “Snowy Seasons Greeting” by Katie Daugherty | “Joy Across the Globe” by Crystal Cline1 COMMENT
