It is with great pleasure that we announce our Guest Judges’ Picks for the this year’s Let it Snow! Holiday + New Year’s Photo Card Challenge. A big thank you to our guest judges Oma Blaise Ford of Better Homes and Gardens magazine, Jeffrey Alan Marks of Bravo’s Million Dollar Decorators, blogger Stephanie Morgan of Modern Parents Messy Kids, and Elaina Sullivan of Domino magazine for their stellar selections and for taking the time to comb through the thousands of photo-card entries that were submitted this year. In addition to being included in Minted’s 2014 holiday assortment, all of the winning designers will also receive an additional $500 prize. Congratulations!
Oma Blaise Ford
Oma Blaise Ford is the Executive Editor for Better Homes and Gardens. Prior to taking up that post in 2011, she headed up the magazine’s Home Design department for nine years. When not busy wielding her editor’s pen and keyboard, she’s an inveterate dinner party host and can usually be found in the kitchen mixing up a casual meal and a great cocktail for friends.
“What can I say, I’m a sucker for that tag shape and I love the unexpected dark background for a holiday card,” says Ford of Snow & Ivy‘s Chalk & Holly card. “The design nicely frames the photo—I suspect it could even elevate a less than fabulous shot—and I love that it could be used as an oversize gift tag as well as traditional card. And the hole at the top just begs to be pinned to your bulletin board or strung on the tree, and not tossed in the recycle bin.”
Jeffrey Alan Marks
You might know interior designer Jeffrey Alan Marks from Bravo’s beloved reality show Million Dollar Decorators. He is also the author of The Meaning of Home, his first coffee table book, showcasing fifteen of his firms’ projects, from Malibu beach houses to London townhouses. Jeffrey Alan Marks’ projects include celebrity clients and business luminaries as well as iconic commercial interiors including, Tavern Restaurant in Brentwood, The Hungry Cat in Santa Monica, and Belcampo Lodge Belize. His inspired furniture designs and lighting can be found at Palecek and A. Rudin Furniture. He is presently at work on a collection of select fabrics to be carried by luxury fabric purveyor Kravet. Jeffrey’s designs continue to be featured in major publications including, Architectural Digest, Elle Décor, House Beautiful, Town & Country, and Wall Street Journal magazine.
Stephanie Morgan is mom to three young children, a style and parenting blogger, and the founder of Modern Parents Messy Kids (MPMK for short). MPMK, voted Best Craft Blog by Parents magazine, provides recipes, organizational ideas, playtime activities, and more to help parents simplify their lives and connect with their kids.
“I tend to feature my kids in my holiday cards because they’re the ones that change so much from year to year,” says Morgan. “Plus, it can be really tricky to get a good photo with the whole family, so I love that the message of Ann Gardner‘s The Night Before card is meant for a kids-only photo. Also, I’m a sucker for the fun typography and the black-and-white color scheme is sure to make my photos pop! Finally, who doesn’t enjoy a little humor in their Christmas card? It’s fun to bring a smile to your friends’ and family’s faces.”
Elaina Sullivan is the Market Editor at Domino. Before that, she was an editor at Better Homes and Gardens, Southern Living, and Martha Stewart Weddings.
Thank you to all of our guest judges and big congratulations to all of our winning designers—hopefully this makes your Monday morning a whole lot sweeter!
