Each year Minted hosts our highly anticipated holiday photo card competition in search of the best and freshest holiday card designs. The results blew us away! Independent designers from all over the world stepped up to the challenge—we received an incredible 4,103 submissions from 481 artists. The winners below each stood out in one of our special prize categories. Congratulations, winners! Check back tomorrow for more special prize winners.
Deck the Halls Award for the best design that celebrates the Christmas spirit, and not a generic/non-denominational holiday card
“Christmas Pop” by Jessie Steury
Jessie has such a knack for lighthearted, cheerful design! “Christmas Pop” has that distinctively-Jessie Steury feel: bold graphics, retro icons, and bright colors. Her off-kilter borders and offset colors add lots of visual interest and a sense of playful movement. This card definitely pops!
All is Bright Award for the design that best uses bold, non-traditional colors for the holidays
“Abstract Pinecone” by Frooted Design
Tanya shows us a fresh new take on holiday green in her mint and black card. The abstract pinecone pattern, complete with playful offset white curves and a sweetly handwritten “joy”, is such an artistic way to convey holiday spirit! The black box at the bottom boldy grounds the clever two-photo layout.
“Merry Streamers” by Paper Dahlia
We couldn’t narrow down our picks for this award to just one winner. “Merry Streamers” is definitely merry and bright! Kerry is such a talented painter, and she uses that skill to gorgeous effect in this card. The warm color palette will definitely stand out from the stack, and the crepe paper-like texture that Kerry achieved in the streamers is just gorgeous!
Happy 2015! Award for the best bold way of displaying the numbers “2015”
“Nouvelle Annee” by carly reed
Carly’s art deco year really stands out in her très chic “Nouvelle Annee”! The slate, lime, and pink color palette is so fresh and works so well with the white space in the card’s spare layout. The proportions in this card are just right – the year is big and bold, but there’s still plenty of space to keep the photo the center of attention.
New Year’s Cheer Award for the best festive design (think fun bright colors, festive typographic treatments, or other ways to convey the festive spirit of New Year’s)
“Vintage Cheer” by Leah Bisch
Leah’s “Vintage Cheer” has so much movement and is just so joyful! The ornaments at the top and bottom of the skillful typographic treatment are reminiscent of new year’s fireworks, and we love the arrow around “in” pointing us towards 2015. It’s hard to believe that this was one of Leah’s very first Minted challenges – great job, Leah!
