The Most Wonderful Time of the Year – Katy’s Hot Toddy and Spiced Apple Cider Recipes

This last idea for getting in the holiday spirit may be one of the simplest, make a holiday beverage!  The taste (and smell!) of these drinks always make me think of wintertime.

Hot Toddy (makes 1 serving)
  • 1 1/2 ounces whisky or bourbon (I’m using Bulleit® Rye)
  • 1 tablespoon honey
  • 1/4 lemon
  • 1 cup hot water
  • a few whole cloves and/or a cinnamon stick
Put water in a kettle to heat. Remove the seeds from the lemon slice and squeeze it into a glass or mug (you can put the squeezed slice in the glass if you like your drinks extra lemony delicious). Add the honey and spirits to the glass and top off with hot water. Pop in the cloves and/or cinnamon stick for added flavor. Don your best holiday sweater. Enjoy!

 Hot Apple Cider (makes 5 servings)
  • 6 cups apple cider
  • 3 cinnamon sticks
  • 6 whole cloves
  • a few shakes of nutmeg
In a small pot, heat the cider and spices over low/medium heat for 5 to 10 minutes, or until it is very hot but not boiling. Stir often. Pour into mugs, keeping the whole spices in the pot. Garnish with fresh cinnamon sticks. Press play on Jack’s Holiday Playlist. Instant holiday magic!
