Quickfire Stationery Gifts Challenge Special Prize Winners

By Madeline Paymer and Jen Casebeer, Minted Community Team

We went back to basics with one of our old favorites – a stationery challenge! Discerning customers come to Minted for clean, beautiful, and unique stationery designs that they just can’t find anywhere else. So in the Quickfire Stationery Gifts Challenge, we asked the Minted Community to create fresh stationery designs that would wow our customers and make great gifts (to order for someone else or for yourself!). The winners below each truly shined in our special prize categories. Congratulations to our special prize winners!

Out of the Box Award for the most unique, original stationery design:

Desert Stripes” by Alethea and Ruth

We’ve never seen stationery quite like Rachel’s “Desert Stripes,” and we can’t get enough of it! Practically evoking a desert landscape at dawn, the delicate dots and stripes seamlessly combine with graphic color-blocking to create stationery that’s really worth writing home about.

neutral territory.

By Victoria Smith of sfgirlbybay.

Creamy-colored neutrals are back in a big way. I think it has to do with the popularity of the souk and flokati rugs that are popping up every where I look. The vintage Moroccan Boucherouite and Ben Ouarain rugs are a hit, too and even the cowhide. All these warm, fuzzy textiles seem to have influenced the decor that surrounds them and rooms are being designed without a lot of color, per se, but a multitude of rich creamy, white hues and textures. Makes me want to curl up with a cup of hot cocoa and read a good, long book.

I love this Souk rug paired with very soft, pale gray. This is the beautiful home of Amelia Widell from Lovely Life.

R Studio and Students in Minted’s State of the Art Challenge

Minted artists are incredibly supportive of each other; they critique each others’ work, give suggestions, celebrate others’ wins, and often become good friends. Many see Minted as a type of “design school” and a valuable source for learning and inspiration. So it’s very fitting that we’re writing today about a Minted relationship that incorporates education on a whole new level! Longtime Mintie Renée Stevens of R Studio is a professor at SUNY Oswego in upstate New York. We were so happy and flattered to hear that last semester, she encouraged her graphic design students to submit their artwork to Minted’s State of the Art Challenge.

In a challenge with an incredible 1,044 art submissions, two of Renée’s students won Minted Editors’ Pick prizes! “The Mess” by Emily Hinckley and “Townie” by Melissa will both be up for sale on Minted.com soon. We see Minted as an artistic community, first and foremost, and nothing makes us happier than seeing artists take a risk and learn through the challenge process.

Emily, Renée, and Melissa

We were lucky enough to get to hear from Emily, Renée, and Melissa about their Minted experiences and about the inspiration for their work.

cotton candy cloud cake topper

By Melanie of You Are My Fave

When my friend’s five-year-old daughter requested a weather theme for her birthday party, I jumped at the chance to help throw it. Clouds became the main motif and my friend had the genius idea of using cotton candy to make a fluffy cake topper. It takes two supplies and about one minute to complete this tasty diy.
