Looking for that perfect touch for your romantic dinner (whether that be with a special someone or a bunch of girlfriends) on the 14th? How about some pretty ombre heart napkins! Freezer paper stenciling is one of my favorite DIY crafts. How great is it that you can make unique and customized fabric items with ease? This ombre technique is something new I tried to go with Minted’s Valentine’s Ombre Love Party Decorations.
Step 1: Gather your supplies. You’ll need: Freezer Paper, craft paint (color of your choice and white), fabric medium, stencil brush, paint palette or just a good old paper plate. I’m partial to Martha Stewart’s paints and fabric, but anything will do.
Step 2: Cut out your desired shape, leaving at least 1″ margin around the shape.
Step 3: Using a hot iron, simply iron the freezer paper (shiny side down) to the napkin. Make sure all the edges are adhered well.
Step 4: Make your 3 ombre colors. The original color, white and then the shade in between (which is equal parts white and the color). Then mix in 1 part fabric medium to every 2 parts of paint. The fabric medium makes the paint more flexible with it dries on the fabric.
Step 5: Starting with the white paint, start dabbing on the paint with a dry stencil brush. Then move to the middle shade and end with the darkest shade. To finish, I took another dry brush and where the colors came together I blended them so that there wasn’t a harsh line.
Step 6: Let the paint dry. Then, remove the stencil. Let the paint dry another couple hours and then set the paint with a hot iron.
Pair with some minted party decor for ultimate cuteness.
