I really, really love this one - simple and elegant! I wonder how you would handle a longer set of names though?

Kelly on Aug 5, 2008 at 2:39pm edit delete

hard to read the names plus they go off the edges of the banner.... also, do you have the rights to the images?

Amy on Aug 5, 2008 at 3:32pm edit delete

I'll work on the names... Yes, I purchased the birds. The banner is recreated in Illustrator from old clip art.

Amy on Aug 5, 2008 at 7:15pm edit delete

I updated the font on the banner to make it more readable and allow for more flexibility in name lengths. It's quite a departure from the script font I used before. Does it work?

For what it's worth, I think it's better. "Meaghan" has another "a" in it. Believe me, you would rather hear that from me than from Alex! :)

Seriously. Alex is scary. Don't hurt me Alex.... HaHa This is will I tell clients - If spellcheck does not catch it - I won't either.

Once again I prove my lack of spelling and typing skills... Long gone are my dreams of being an editor. *sigh*

If the Alex you are referring to is Alex of Alex Elko Designs, you have nothing to be intimidated by... he is just a design peer. From what I know of him through his website he hasn't been crowned the higher being of design, he is just another young designer. If anything he gives his personal advice which might be constructive and from another perspective, but not necessarily correct. :)

Amy on Aug 8, 2008 at 11:18am edit delete

I appreciate all of Alex's comments and welcome his critiques. How can you grow and be stretched as a designer if you can't take criticism?? I vote to remove the "Remember to play nice" text above. If you can't handle it, go grow some skin (please).

Mandy on Aug 8, 2008 at 12:42pm edit delete

Amy, I completely agree with your statement about taking criticism in order to grow as a designer. I most often welcome constructive criticism from critics with a wealth of professional stature and experience in the industry. I saw that you commented that "Alex is scary" and just wanted to comment back that he is not an official judge. After looking at his website and seeing some of his previous card entries, I myself decided that stationery design is not his strong suit and would take criticisms a little more seriously from a designer who has a real talent for stationery design. I'm on your side. :)

My last comment was a general statement in no way aim at you or Alex. I was totally kidding about Alex being scary. I think his comments are for more the most part helpful, and sometimes entertaining. Thanks for the open dialog.

I can't type but I'm sure you get the point... =)

Love this for it's fresh look. Plus they can use this for other things besides a thank you card. Smart!

Thank you for your support ;) But Mandy got it right that I am coming from this as a design peer, so please take my comments and suggestions with a grain of salt. Like many of you I am trying to get better at what I do, and hopefully I will learn a lot from the whole experience. Everyone has different backgrounds, different skill sets, and differing tastes and opinions, which you should weigh against your own thoughts and instincts. And I will be the first to admit that it has been challenging for me to hone in to what the public would want as a design (some designers like Oscar+Emma and Float seem to have nailed this) so you should probably listen to the consumers over me :)

Also, I'll try to keep my snarkiness in check - I know I've gone over the line, and apologize for that.
