comments from Christine:

This was taken on a visit to a local park. It was a relaxing late Spring day by the lake and I saw a sailboat sailing on the water.

No i dont think is too simple, remember sometimes less is more. I like the colors and how the boat is all one color, I also like the horizontal line of the sea dividing the space. Over all nice composition.

Whether its too simple or not is a very subjective thing so I'm going to share the "design-y" things that stuck out for me: it feels a bit too symmetrical with the water/sky line yet oddly asymmetrical with the sailboat off-center by a smidge. Can you crop it to move those two elements so they're not so symmetrical/more pronounced asymmetry, respectively? I personally would prefer more sky in the shot too. Note: I'm a graphic designer & not a photographer so go with your gut if you disagree :) Good luck in the challenge!

I agree the crop could use a little more strength. I do like the texture in the water but the stylizing looks too processed for my taste as you can see the halo appearing around the sailboat. Maybe you can keep the colors/stylizing for the water and fade the effect as it gets close to the boast and sky? That may not work out as I'm visualizing it, but just an idea to try!

I like the simplicity. I also think the water has a cool effect. Consider cropping the image to have less symmetry (as others have suggested as well) and I think what you are viewing as simplicity might disappear.

I think simple is good. But I think the boat looks a bit over-processed, I think. It looks like it is pasted on because there is no detail in the color there. But the processing works well for the waves though. Good luck!
