About the Design

comments from Alison:

This was painted by inspiration from the lake I lived on as a child in Wisconsin.Often times we would walk on the frozen lake to get to the other side. This lake was dotted with large pine trees. The colors and smells were breathtaking.

Hi! Can you tell me if you feel this is too dark? Should I lighten it up a bit? Thanks!

LOVE. I like the darkness, it sets the mood and I really love the pinks and purple touches. Judiciously used pink is one of my favorite things in art--it softens the darkness.

I agree, I think the pink really softens it up. I could totally see this going two color ways with a light, bright version in a white frame, or this version in a black or wood frame. They'd both be great, but I do love the tones as they are right now! :)

There is plenty of light in this piece. You have created a very beautiful mood. I would leave it as is for sure!

Definitely not too dark. I think the colors and tones create a simultaneously somber and hopeful mood. Lovely composition as well.

I think it is great as it is with the slight color of pink, blue and purple. I think this would get lost with lightening it up and you will lose the nice contrast that you currently have.

Thank you for the comment Alison, I truly appreciate it. I love this piece with it's sombre, muted tones yet with a touch of pink. Wouldn't change a thing about it!

No, leave it alone. I love its moodiness and the tone it sets.

I don't think it's too dark at all. I love the mood that it fosters and like the pink. It's different than what you expect, subtle, yet still visually interesting.

I don't think that it looks too dark. I think the variety of gray values you used creates a soft, calming feel to it as well a mysterious feel. I see that your piece was inspired from a lake in Wisconsin. That's where I live.

I love the colors and composition on this. The dark grays against the soft pink gives off a dramatic yet soothing aura.
