Your script is a lovely choice, but I think the effects added to it are indeed a bit over the top. You might want to try using just white? Or a cream? I also think the accompanying font choice is a bit blah - maybe a san serif with a bit more life to it? A bit of magic? ;)

Try matching the fonts and a solid color for the script font. I like the placement of the image.

I think the dimension you have on your "magical new year" is really realistic – I might try, instead of placing it over the photo, having it over a solid background. You could either split the card so half (or so) is a photo and the other portion a graphic, or you could shrink the photo down and center it? Also, the helvetica neue just doesn't seem to hold up to your "magical" …maybe play around with some other options and do a poll?

I love the feeling you are wanting to convey, but I agree with Natalie about decreasing the effects and choosing a more simple color style for the lettering. I would also place the "New Year" slightly farther from the girl's head.
