About the Design

comments from Robert:

This art print of an oil on canvas painting depicts the dramatic battle between light and fog each morning along the Northern California coast. This crab boat, docked in the harbor at Half Moon Bay, has just unloaded its catch after a night of fishing.

Beautiful. Great emotion.

Marcia on Jun 11, 2016 at 6:10pm

The movement of water and mist keeps drawing the eye in, and the ways the structures' outlines are blurred in the thicker fog is exquisite.

I don't see a problem adjusting your paintings digitally. Digital media is just another tool for making art. So if that will help you create your vision, why not! If you want your digital to remain as true as possible to your painting, then go for it!

Beautiful painting with lots of athmosphere! Love it! As for the question about digital, for me it depends on the work/ motif … usually with my watercolours I try to be true to the painting. But I always question myself – if I modify sthg digitally does it help the work to get closer to what I want to say? Does it help to achieve the feeling I want to evoke? If yes, I go for it.

So impressive... I'm blown away that you can make something as complicated as a boat look so soft and beautiful and realistic. Lovely light too!!

So amazing Robert! I love this. Also, thank you for the kind note. I'll def be looking for this piece during voting. Looks like a winner to me!

Steve on Jul 2, 2016 at 2:55pm

I agree with other comments that it almost looks like a photograph. The water looks so wet! When I zoom way out I see the interesting flow of purple color in the upper-left, shades of grey, the foggy indistinct part in the background and the sharp realism in the foreground. Very well done, Robert!

Steve on Jul 4, 2016 at 12:15pm

Adding to my earlier comment, I see a good use of "thirds" in the composition, both vertically and horizontally.

Jeanette on Jul 27, 2016 at 4:33pm

I like this painting very much. The fog is done very well. It just flows from heavy to light seamlessly. Also a good detail.
